Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Liao Youyuan, an employee of the Hengyang City Instrument and Metre Plant in Changsha City, Hunan Province, was illegally arrested1on June 14th, 2005, when telling people, who had been misled by the government propaganda, the facts about Falun Dafa and exposing the persecution. He was sentenced to forced labour and was tortured to death at Xinkaipu Forced Labour Camp on December 18th. The details await further investigation.
Liao Youyuan, 64 years old, began Dafa practice in 1996 and he became very healthy.. On July 20th, 1999 the persecution began, and Liao Youyuan remained firmly devoted to practising Dafa.
During the 2001 Chinese New Year, Liao Youyuan was held at the Hengyang City Custody Centre for six months.
Someone betrayed Liao Youyuan on June 14th, 2005, when he clarified the truth2 near the Jiangdong Nonferrous Metals Smelter. Officers from the Bajiaotang Police Station in the Hengyang City Police Department arrested him and took him to the Bajiaotang Police Station. The police searched Mr. Liao, and political head Hu Shouxian and others beat him. Close to evening, a group of evildoers led by police officer Hu Shouxian ransacked Liao Youyuan's home and sent him to the No. 2 Detention Centre in Hengyang City. They threatened Liao Youyuan's family and demanded money from them. His family refused to give the police extortion money. The perpetrators sent Liao Youyuan to the Xinkaipu Forced Labour Camp in Changsha City on July 8th, 2005, where Mr. Liao was tortured to death on December 18th, 2005.
Due to the information blockade, the details surrounding his death are unclear. The camp authorities said that Liao Youyuan was ill and had an odour and so the inmates beat him.
According to a previous report on the Minghui/Clearwisdom website, all Dafa practitioners are forced to remove all clothing on arrival at the Xinkaipu Forced Labour Camp. Each practitioner is then isolated and monitored by three drug-addict inmates, handpicked by the guards. The three inmates follow the practitioner everywhere.

Note
1. Illegally arrested: Contrary to what former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin, who initiated the persecution, and the Chinese Communist Party would like the world to believe, practising Falun Gong is NOT illegal in China. Although the Public Security Department issued an unconstitutional set of restraints on the practice at the onset of the persecution in 1999, no laws have been passed by the only legislative body in China, the People's Congress, banning Falun Gong or granting the police the authority to arrest Falun Gong practitioners for practising the exercises or distributing flyers. For a more complete discussion of the illegality of the persecution of Falun Gong, please refer to the article "The Ban on Falun Gong—A Dictator's Whim, Not the Rule of Law". (Variation: "illegally sentenced")
2. Clarifying the Truth: Because of the persecution in China and the unrelenting hate campaign carried out by China's state-controlled media, Falun Gong practitioners have been actively "clarifying the truth" -- explaining to the public the facts about Falun Gong and exposing the persecution. Truth clarification activities include face-to-face conversations with people, posting notices and posters, handing out flyers, and hanging banners. Outside of China, where Falun Gong is freely practiced, practitioners further expose the persecution through anti-torture reenactments, art exhibits, Internet websites, books, magazines, newspapers, movies and letter writing. The goal of clarifying the truth is to help people understand Falun Gong, to dispel the lies of the communist regime in China and to raise public support to end the persecution. (Variations: "clarifying the truth", "truth clarifying", "truth-clarifying", "truth clarification", "truth-clarification", "clarifying the facts", "clarified the truth", and "clarified the facts")
