Three Elderly Falun Gong Practitioners in the Shunyi District, Beijing Passed Away As a Result of the Persecution

Three elderly Falun Dafa practitioners in their 70s living in the Shunyi District, Beijing passed away as a result of the persecution they suffered. Mr. Liu Jingchen passed away in March 2003, at the age of 78, Ms. Shan Yonghua passed away in June 2001, at the age of 70, and Ms. Wang Yunfeng passed away in November 2002, at the age of 70.

Mr. Liu Jingchen was from Baita Village, in the Shunyi District of Beijing. Mr. Liu began practising Falun Dafa in 1996. He practised Buddhism prior to that time. After the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20th, 1999, officials from a local 610 Office¹ and from the Security Committee constantly came to visit Mr. Liu and harass him, yet they were unable to force him to give up Dafa. In 2002, Mr. Liu's daughter was brainwashed and believed the Chinese Communist Party's propaganda. She cooperated with local 610 Office agents to stop her father from studying the Falun Dafa books and practising the exercises. She even helped send him to be forcibly brainwashed. Mr. Liu was so affected by his daughter's persecution that he developed a mental disorder. He passed away in March 2003.

Ms. Shan Yonghua was from Linhe Village in the Beijing Shunyi District. She started practising Dafa in June 1998. Ms. Shan suffered from serious heart disease and a stroke. She could not even sit up in bed. However, several months after she started practising, Ms. Shan completely recovered. On July 21st, 1999, Ms. Shan went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. On her way there, the police stopped her. In the spring of 2000, Ms. Shan went to Tiananmen Square to do the exercises in order to appeal for Dafa. After that Yu Shuiwang, from the local Linhe Police Station, constantly harassed her. Yu is currently at the Shunyi District Liqiao Police Station. Shi Zhanjun, from Linhe Village Security Committee, also monitored Ms. Shan for a long period. In June 2001, Ms. Shan was forced to attend a photo exhibit slandering Falun Gong. She also lost her freedom, and people followed her even when she went to the toilet. Several days after she attended the exhibit, Ms. Shan suffered a relapse of her old illness. After medical treatments failed to cure her, she passed away.

Ms. Wang Yunfeng was from Xiapo Village. She had many illnesses prior to practising Falun Gong and completely recovered after she began the practice. After the persecution against Falun Gong started in 1999, officials from the local 610 Office and from the Security Committee worked with her family members to stop her from studying the teachings and practising the exercises. Soon the illnesses Ms. Wang suffered before practising Dafa returned. She passed away in November 2002.

Since early 2005, Shunyi District officials have intensified the pressure to force Dafa practitioners to write the three statements². Many practitioners were sentenced to forced labour immediately after police officers broke into their homes. In 2000, practitioner Ms. Li Hongjun was sentenced to one year forced labour. In 2002, Ms. Li was sentenced to two years of forced labour again. In 2005 she was again sentenced to another two and a-half years of forced labour. They sent her to the Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp, Division No. 4 in October 2005. The Shunyi District Beiwu Police Station personnel arrested Dafa practitioner Hou Yongchun on August 17th, 2005. Practitioner Yang Wenping from Dongzhuanghu Village in Yang Town suffered broken legs due to the persecution, yet she was still carried away from home and sentenced to two and a half years of forced labour.

1. "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.

2. "Three Statements": Practitioners are coerced under brainwashing and torture to write "Repentance Statement," "Guarantee Statement" or 'Dissociation Statement" as proof that they have given up their belief. In the statement, the practitioner is forced to admit remorse for practising Falun Gong, promise to give up Falun Gong, and never again associate with other practitioners or go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong.
