Since April 2005 the authorities have imprisoned practitioner Ms. Zhou Xiaohong, a resident of Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, in the Baimalong Forced Labour Camp. Under "strict supervision" and subjected to repeated beatings, Ms. Zhou is now walking with a limp. Also from Chenzhou City, practitioner Mr. Wu Jianmin was sentenced to four years in prison for practising Falun Gong and is currently detained in the Jin City prison.

Since July 1999 when Jiang Zemin's regime initiated the suppression of Falun Gong, Mr. Wu has been in prison practically the entire time. First on October 27th, 1999, when Mr. Wu went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong, he was detained for one month and had 4,000 yuan1 extorted from him. Back then his only child was just 11 years old. In January 2000 when Mr. Wu went to visit another practitioner he was reported and arrested. The guards at the 7429 Plant brutally beat him and stomped on his toes so brutally that some of his toenails fell off. They then took him to the No.2 Detention Centre of Chenzhou City and imprisoned him there for over three months. When Mr. Wu was released from the detention centre, his mental state was cloudy and his reactions slow. His entire body bore the scars of the extreme brutality. It was a shocking sight to behold.

While Mr. Wu maintained his belief, his wife acquiesced under the vile party's pressure and divorced him on March 3rd, 2000. Later, the authorities once again arrested him and imprisoned him in the No.1 Detention Centre for slave labour. Mr. Wu was forced to chain coloured light bulbs. He had to make six bags everyday, with each bag containing over one thousand bulbs. In spite of his hard work from early morning to late night, he could hardly finish five and a half bags. As a result, the prison head routinely punished him with a variety of tortures.

In September 2001, the authorities sentenced him to one and a half years and imprisoned him in the Xinkaipu Forced Labour Camp. Soon after he returned home in 2002, the police again arrested him in September. In August 2003, the authorities sentenced him to another four years in Jin City Prison in Hunan Province.

While Mr. Wu was being persecuted, the grades of his child, which had previously been an excellent, dropped sharply. Mr. Wu's son had to be taken care of by his 85-year-old grandmother Ms. Wang Peilan, who had a paltry monthly income of only 110 "yuan".

Also in Chenzhou City, the authorities have imprisoned practitioner Ms. Zhou Xiaohong of No. 302 Brigade of Chenzhou City in Baimalong Forced Labour Camp. Because she too maintained her belief in Falun Dafa, she was put under strict supervision and brutally beaten. Ms. Zhou now walks with a limp. In addition, she was not allowed to go to the toilet or to bed for days. She was forced to squat day and night, with her arms stretching forward.

Divorced for a number of years, Ms. Zhou has custody of her 12-year-old son but his father is currently taking care of him. Accusing her of mailing Falun Dafa materials to her hometown, the police at Anren in Chenzhou City imprisoned her for several months. When she was finally released, the authorities at the 302 Brigade took away her teaching position and forced her to sweep the streets. Her wages were reduced to less than half, and she was unable to support her child, who was going to middle school. She was forced to send her son to the child's father in Beijing.

In carrying out orders from the 610 Office, the authorities at the 302 Brigade in Chenzhou City, accompanied by local police, frequently go to practitioners' homes to search, confiscate books, and extort money. For instance, in March 2001, officers went ransacking practitioners' homes. In September 2001, they forced a practitioner teacher to leave his job. On January 22nd, 2003, police officers from the 302 Brigade once again searched practitioner Ms. Zhou Xiaohong's house and illegally imprisoned her for 135 days.
