Ms. Qiu Yunzhi, 52 years old, was a practitioner from Lujia Village, Dehui City, Jilin Province. Before she started cultivating in 1998, she suffered from a variety of diseases. After she began practising Falun Dafa, her physical and mental health greatly improved and her diseases healed miraculously. On July 20th, 1999, the Jiang regime began persecuting Falun Gong. In a visit to the Appeals Office in Beijing in March 2003, Ms. Qiu was arrested by the police halfway through her trip. She was sent to her hometown and held the Dehui City Detention Centre for 16 days. She was also extorted out of 2,700 yuan1. Thereafter, she suffered constant harassment, threats, and house break-ins by agents Gao, Guo, and Li from the local police station and Dehui City 610 Office2. Under great pressure, she suffered a mental breakdown and was mentally disordered for the past five years. Finally, on March 21st, 2003, she died. The Dehui City Public Security Bureau and Wutai Village Detention Centre criminals are directly guilty of persecuting Ms. Qiu to death.

Mr. Zhou Chengjian, approximately 46 years old, was a practitioner from Hubei Province, possibly from Ezhou. He recovered from poor health shortly after beginning to cultivate Falun Dafa. At the end of 2003, he was sentenced to three years of imprisonment in the Hubei Province Qinduankou Prison. The sentence was to end in May 2006. He was brutally tortured in the Fifth Middle Team. He could not eat and had constant headaches. Sources have revealed that he had brain cancer. Finally, a few months after he was bailed out for medical treatment in March 2004, he passed away due to the persecution.

Mr. Wang Shichang, 60 years old, was a practitioner from Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province. After he began practising Dafa, his health improved tremendously and he was cured of all his previous illnesses. After the persecution began on July 20th, 1999, he began practising Dafa openly in public areas and was "illegally detained3" by the police for two weeks. Due to constant harassment and threats by the local police, Mr. Wang's physical and mental health was severely impaired and he became unable to live normally. He passed away tragically on January 30th, 2004.

Mr. Zhang Ziyuan, 40 years old, was a practitioner from the Xinyinan construction site in Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province. He used to be a carpenter and was a late stage colorectal cancer patient before cultivating Dafa. After he began to cultivate, his body recovered gradually. Since the persecution of Falun Gong began the police have harassed him at home countless times, forbidding him and his wife from practising Dafa. His wife was forced to live in exile. Even then, the police continued to threaten his family and created a great psychological pressure for him. With no chance of appealing the injustices he suffered and unable to reunite with his family, Mr. Zhang died in July 2002.

Ms. Zhang Shulan, 60 years old, was a practitioner from Suihua City, Heilongjiang Province. Before cultivating Dafa, she had a large tumour on her neck and could not speak properly, much less live a normal life. After becoming a practitioner, she recovered miraculously and could speak properly. As a result, many of her relatives were led to cultivating Dafa. After the persecution of Falun Gong began the police broke into her place and arrested her numerous times. One of her daughters was taken to the local police station where she was brutally tortured and force-fed before being sent to the Qiqihar Labour Camp and sentenced to three years of imprisonment. As a result, her daughter became mentally disordered. Another of Ms. Zhang's daughters was also arrested and imprisoned. Seeing her family members and children suffer tremendous persecution, yet unable to appeal these injustices, Ms. Zhang passed away in July 2003 under immense pressure.

Note

1. "Yuan" is the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.

2. "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.

3. Illegally arrested: Contrary to what former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin, who initiated the persecution, and the Chinese Communist Party would like the world to believe, practising Falun Gong is NOT illegal in China. Although the Public Security Department issued an unconstitutional set of restraints on the practice at the onset of the persecution in 1999, no laws have been passed by the only legislative body in China, the People's Congress, banning Falun Gong or granting the police the authority to arrest Falun Gong practitioners for practising the exercises or distributing flyers. For a more complete discussion of the illegality of the persecution of Falun Gong, please refer to the article "The Ban on Falun Gong—A Dictator's Whim, Not the Rule of Law". (Variation: "illegally sentenced")
