According to reliable sources, from the first half year of 2001 in Xian City, Shaanxi Province, the so-called "legal system studying classes" [forced brainwashing class] have been set up in all 7 counties and boroughs. Around 110 Dafa [Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance] practitioners have been successively arrested for forceful brainwashing.
From August 2001, the municipal 610 office [a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches] started holding a city-centralized so-called "reading class" at the Changqing Nursing Home in Lintong county. Practitioners are not permitted contact with outside. They recruited people from various walks of life, who do not know the truth about Dafa, to give lectures and play videotapes that defame Dafa and Teacher Li [the founder of Falun Gong]. They force practitioners to write a so-called "understanding." The first term went from August to October 2001. Twenty practitioners were arrested and one of them was sentenced to forced labour camp. At the end of October, they started the second term. About 20 practitioners were successively arrested. The class continues without a break during the Chinese Lunar New Year. Every practitioner is accompanied by an "assistant." Each practitioner has to pay 2,000 Yuan in living expenses. They illegally detain Dafa practitioners under false pretences.
