Taiwan: Interview with a Falun Gong practitioner who clarifies the facts by phone to China

For seven years, Falun Gong practitioners have been standing up against the persecution by clarifying the truth about the situation to the world's people. Falun Gong practitioners in China have been distributing leaflets to clarifying the facts about Falun Gong face to face but also telling Chinese people about the persecution via all sorts of methods. Out of all the methods, the most direct way is making phone calls to China to directly tell people there the facts about Falun Gong. People who answered phone calls are from all walks of life: from policemen and forced labour camps officials directly responsible for persecuting Falun Gong to civilians, university students in dormitories and all the way up to government level.

Since 2004, Mr. Chen has often made phone calls to China for this purpose. Why dose he persist in making phone calls to China using his own money, time and even sometimes taking the risk of being cursed at by those who answer the call? What does his family think about this? What information does Mr. Chen want to convey to his fellow countrymen? The following is an interview with Mr. Chen that will answer these questions.

Reporter: How are you, Mr. Chen. What do you tell people when you make phone calls to China?
Chen: Parts of the truth clarification I talk about is inside stories about the Communist Party persecuting Falun Gong practitioners in China. This includes recently exposed stories about Falun Gong practitioners having their organs removed, information that is generally blocked in China. Apart from this, I also tell them about the global movement of quitting the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), information that I think is also not readily available in mainland China.

Reporter: What sort of person do you make phone calls to?
Chen: We don't really differentiate between people. We just make phone calls to people as long as they are Chinese. In China, when Falun Gong practitioners are being treated unfairly, we often aim at some local police who have broken the law and clarify the truth to them because they are also a group of people who have been blinded. During the time when Jiang Zemin started to suppress Falun Gong, he deceived masses of Chinese people including the police by using rumour-mongering and mudslinging. Therefore, we also have to clarify the facts to them and have them know that what they have done is illegal. Everything is fabricated by Jiang Zemin and his group in order to persecute Chinese people, which is illegal.

Reporter: Have you ever come across a police officer whose attitude is bad and even worse when you are making phone calls to them in China?
Chen: Yes. Although some of them know that what they have done is illegal and against human rights, they have committed many more bad deeds by killing their fellow countrymen against their conscience so that they receive a larger bonus or quick promotion. All of this is offered by the CCP. We often also tell them that good is rewarded with good; and evil with evil: you will still be receive evil returns though you have gained some temporary benefits by persecuting your countrymen.

Reporter: Would you give us a specific example?
Chen: For example: There is a chief leader of the 610 Office [A CCP organisation that was specifically set up to persecute Falun Gong] who specially took charge of persecuting Falun Gong in his workplace. The leader himself knows very well what is contained in the Falun Gong books. Basically, he also knows that those who practise Falun Gong are good people and they want to be good people with kindness by improving their moral characters. At the very start, he also said: “Right, Falun Gong is a good practice. But we must do this because the government orders us to defeat it.” So I told him: “Which do you choose today? Do you listen to the Party who kills and persecutes people or do you want to defend Chinese people?” At the beginning, this person was not very rational and said: “My job is to act by taking orders." I replied: For so many years, the Chinese Communist Party has started so many movements that have killed many Chinese people. In fact, it is not qualified to represent China. I clarified the facts to him this from the viewpoint of law, human rights and kindness to humans. There was even some heated arguments. After that, I thought that everyone has a little kindness. Thereafter, this person insisted that the persecution had relaxed. He knew that he has done something wrong and the side of his conscience knows, I think. He thinks that he has to make a living so he feels that he has to do things against his conscience.

Reporter: You’ve just mentioned that the contents of your clarifying truth to people in China also include the great wave of quitting the Party. Well then, are there any people who asked you for help with quitting the party on a website abroad?
Chen: Yes. A deputy director general in certain area has just quit the Party recently. Before that, when I told him the facts that the Communist Party persecutes Chinese people, he said that we wanted to do something reactionary cooperating with the force against China. I told him: “In fact, what we are against is the Communist Party who kills Chinese people not China.” I continued telling him: “We all know everything you have done and you also know what you have done is illegal. It is just because you are in the present position that you cannot help but do it accordingly. However, I offered advice: “Up above there is a policy, down here there is a countermeasure. You can remain neutral and don’t listen to those wrong orders to persecute those kind Falun Gong practitioners.”

I gave him an example. During the ten year Cultural Revolution, there were many adherents who were radical and toed the line. When the moment came, they were either secretly shot or spent the rest of lives in prison. Good is rewarded with good, and evil with evil. Nobody can escape from this. After hearing what I said, the deputy director general was suffering mentally. He said: “I know what I have done is not good but I have a family, I must have this job and make a living.” I told him: “We don’t want you to make certain declaration on the system but express a kind of your protest against the CCP tyranny on an international website. On the website, you can make a public declaration and withdraw from organisations such as the Chinese Communist Party, League and Young Pioneers by using a pseudonym or your childhood name and express your resistance to the CCP’s tyranny. As a result, he quit the Party, using a pseudonym.

Reporter: How does someone react if someone knows that you, a person from Taiwan, are making a phone call clarifying the truth about Falun Gong to him or persuading him to quit the Party?
Chen: As a rule, when they answer the call from Taiwan, their first reaction: This is some Taiwanese Independence activists. They think that you have accepted their money and are incited by the force of a Taiwanese Independence activists. In fact, some people have still been misled by the CCP, they think that making phone call telling them about the bad deeds the CCP has done in persecuting people is against China, trying to do something reactionary after being incited by forces opposing China.

Reporter: Well then, don’t you have the Taiwan Government or a certain force backing you?
Chen: No. This is the initiative of a Falun Gong practitioner in order to pursue justice and have people from all over the world know that all of this is because of the Communist Party who has hidden the truth from the masses and started rumours stigmatising Falun Gong There is no governments or groups supporting us. What I have done is a completely spontaneous action by an overseas Chinese person who is also a Falun Gong practitioner.

Reporter: Where do you get money for making phone calls?
Chen: I use my own money. We, every Falun Gong practitioner overseas, have permanent jobs. The CCP has been broadcasting the following in China: There are many Falun Gong practitioners overseas that have asked those who have no jobs to clarify the truth, which is a rumour deceiving large masses of Chinese People, I think.

Reporter: Do your family members cultivate?
Chen: They have identified with Dafa based on Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance but all of them haven’t walked the path of cultivation.

Reporter: Well then, what do they think of your making phone calls to China?
Chen: At first, they couldn’t understand why I have made phone calls clarifying the truth to the people so far away. I told them: Today, although we may have spent a little sum of money overseas, spent some time on it and give up some time when I am with my family. Think about it, there are many Chinese people there, many our fellow countrymen whose lives are really on the verge of death or destruction. So what we have done is to save people. We have made phone calls to departments and policemen who have carried out the persecution, telling them that Falun Gong is innocent and Falun Dafa is good. If he knows the fact and doesn’t continue persecuting Falun Gong, do you think how many Falun Gong practitioners and how many kind people will avoid being persecuted? My family members all understand this after I explained it.

Reporter: Right, let’s ask how Mr. Chen’s daughter feels about it. How are you, Miss Chen? Since 2004, your father have been making phone calls to China clarifying the truth about Falun, do you think that your father now spends less time with your family?
Chen: Yes. Sometimes we want him to stay with us for longer, yet he still has to sacrifice some of his time with us in order to help some else.

Reporter: Have you ever complained about him doing this?
Chen: No.

Reporter: Why?
Chen: Because he is helping others.

Reporter: And the final question: As a Falun Gong practitioner in Taiwan, what would you like to say to the people of mainland China?
Chen: I hope to say this to the Chinese people: The Chinese people both from Taiwan and China are descendants of Yan Di and Huang Di. Today, there are countrymen from Taiwan showing great concern for their fellow countrymen in mainland China. As our fellow countrymen in mainland China are now under the dictatorship of the CCP, they have no way of obtaining basic freedom in the media, in speech or in any other means. We must try our utmost to make the Chinese people in the mainland able to have the most basic human rights. We are hoping that with our efforts, the Chinese people can courageously stand up for this. We are calling on more Chinese people to bravely stand up and quit any CCP organisation that they previously joined such as the Communist Party or the League of Young Pioneer on the internet. When the time comes for God to destroy the CCP, you will then not be involved.

One of sticks used by the CCP beating down upon people is “Conducting reactionary activities by colluding with the anti-China forces”, moreover it is easier for Taiwanese people to be put into the "opposing China" box by the CCP because of it's history. And what Falun Gong practitioners in Taiwan have done, in support for Falun Gong practitioners in China, including clarifying the truth and persuading Chinese people to quit the Party, the League of Young Pioneers, is from the perspective of human nature, caring for each other, justice and conscience. Taiwanese people want to stop the persecution of Falun Gong and to help others.
