The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has tortured large amounts of Falun Gong practitioners to death and broken up countless happy families, but what makes people the most afraid is the huge amount of Falun Gong practitioners’ disappearances. Especially when the crime of the concentration camps was revealed to the world such as harvesting Falun Gong practitioners’ organs, people paid more attention to those Falun Gong practitioners whose whereabouts were unknown during the persecution against Falun Gong for many years.
In recent years, the kind people in China have started to systematically provide details of the cases of missing Falun Gong practitioners. Falun Gong Human Rights organisations also submitted cases of missing Falun Gong practitioners to the UN, including many overseas Falun Gong practitioners’ relatives.
The UN working group on enforced or involuntary disappearances recently announced the situation of the disappearances in China they conducted last year and Falun Gong practitioners’ disappearances are the main part of all disappearances in these years. The working group pays special attention to the children’s disappearances and conducted a Falun Gong practitioner’s four-year-old child disappearance after being taken away by the authorities.
Falun Gong Human Rights hope the kind people in China can provide more details regarding the missing practitioners and hope the relatives of the missing practitioners all can actively take part in searching for their families, providing first-hand information to the human rights organisations and clearing up the false charges against our relatives.
Most previous disappearance reports of UN working group on enforced or involuntary disappearances happened in the periods of 1988 to 1990 and 1995 to 1996. These cases mostly related to Tibetans, nineteen of them were monks. It is said that they were passed on to the Chinese government after being arrested in Nepal.
Afterwards, during the period of 2000 to 2001, thirteen cases related to the Falun Gong practitioners. It is said that they were arrested or kidnapped by the Security Department of the Chinese government or the local administrative department. One case in point is where a boy disappeared after being arrested by a Hong Kong Immigration official in 2000. Another case is a Chinese citizen, having US rights of abode, was arrested by the Chinese security people in 2002. In a case submitted in 2004, it was said that a four-year-old child was taken away by the police from a Public Security Bureau in Tongnan County while staying at home. According to the report, her parents were persecuted because they practiced Falun Gong.
During last year, the working group totally submitted 110 disappearances to the Chinese government. Among them, ten cases have been clarified by the party of submitting the information, including the Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Jiang Renzheng, who was repatriated to China by the German government. Sixty nine cases have been clarified according to information provided by the government, and there are still thirty one cases which have not been resolved.
The UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances also pays attention to a worrying situation, that is, among the disadvantaged which are discriminated against, the disappearances are increasing, including some children and people who have been persecuted by the government. The UN working group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances hope to find these people as soon as possible, and hope the families as well as relatives of these being persecuted people could provide more information as soon as possible of the disappearances so that the UN could negotiate with the Chinese government.
