Mr. Yang Hongquan, a practitioner from Jilin City became a good person by following the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance" wherever he went. He was arrested and taken to detention centres three times in 2000, 2003 and 2004 respectively. Under all kinds of physical and mental torture, including being badly beaten and being scraped with a wooden plank on his ribs, he finally developed uraemia, and died on August 29th, 2006.
Left behind were his mother and wife, who had no income. A happy family was thus persecuted and broken up.
Mr. Yang Hongquan, 36 years old, was a resident at Yanji City. He was kind, simple and honest. At the end of 1998, he and his wife started to cultivate Falun Dafa. After cultivation, Mr. Yang Hongquan followed the teaching of "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance" and tried his best to be a good person. His back pains and leg pains that he had suffered from for many years were cured. On July 20th, 1999, the Jiang Zemin regime started its violent persecution of Falun Gong. Mr. Yang Hongquan wanted to appeal to the government and went to the provincial government to appeal for Dafa. However he was stopped by the public security bureau on his way and taken back to a local (Jilin City) detention centre, where he was detained for fifteen days.
In 2000, Mr. Yang Hongquan went again to the Tiananmen Square to appeal for Dafa, and was badly battered by the police. His blood soaked his handkerchief. Later he was taken to the Mentougou Detention Centre. There he went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. During his hunger strike, four or five police bound him to a chair and tried to force-feed him. However the police did not succeed because of Mr. Yang Hongquan's righteous thoughts to resist them.
One day Mr. Yang Hongquan fell down and lost consciousness in the cell. Being afraid of shouldering the responsibility, the police released him. After he was released, Mr. Yang Hongquan was often harassed by the police, who tried to force him to give up his belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance."
In 2003, Mr. Yang Hongquan was once again arrested by the Yanji City National Security Team who badly tortured him. During this time, the police beat him, used a wood plank to scrape his ribs, and turned him around by dragging his hair. The police also used plastic bags to cover his head and suffocate him. They released him momentarily when they saw him near death before they repeated the suffocation. The police also threatened that he was not to go out and talk to anyone else about the torture; otherwise they would torture him to death.
A confession was extorted out of Mr. Yang Hongquan by torture, however as it was during the SARS period, he was again sent to be detained at Dunhua City. His family could hardly get any information until he was sent back to the local detention centre. When his family went to visit him, they discovered that Mr. Yang Hongquan's physical condition was very bad and that he had a fever. His family strongly demanded that he be sent to the hospital to have a medical check-up. After the check-up, it was found that he had a high blood pressure rate that was over two hundred; his heart was beating extremely fast. His family requested that he be bailed out for medical treatment. At the beginning, the police did not agree. After several negotiations, they agreed to have him bailed out for medical treatment.
In February 2004, Mr. Yang Hongquan was again arrested, and was detained at the Yanji City Detention Centre for over one month. He not only lost his personal freedom, but also lost his right to use the washroom. This time, the authorities prepared to sentence him to one year in a forced labour camp. Since he had very high blood pressure and heart problems, his forced labour term was served outside of the labour camp. After several more incidents of torture his health condition began to deteriorate daily.
His wife was also sentenced to a forced labour camp. Mr. Yang was put under great stress both physically and mentally, especially after he learned that his wife had not been released even though she suffered a mental breakdown due to the police's torture. Mr. Yang Hongquan could not help shedding tears. Under all kinds of physical and mental torture, he finally developed uraemia. He died on August 29th, 2006.
