On November 17th, 2006, Falun Gong practitioners joined a march to Prague Castle in protest against organ harvesting in China, particularly the 2006 revelation that thousands of living Falun Gong practitioners had their organs harvested and their bodies cremated on orders from the Chinese Communist Party. A press conference was held to accompany the march. The following press conference speech is by Katerina Jacques MP for the Czech Green Party.
Ladies, gentleman and friends,
It’s a great honour for me to be able to support, even if just symbolically, the very meaningful thing of merit that was accomplished here. But this is just the beginning. Human rights are indivisible and I can’t imagine we would put higher value on business relations then to protecting human rights, dignity and lives when dealing with that regime and having the Olympic Games in China.
Hereby I’m urging our government and governments of all EU members to put pressure on China on issue of human rights and do not allow them to continue with those atrocities, which are actually obvious from this Kilgour and Matas organ harvest investigation.
I thank very much all of you, who have participated in this action and for myself and the Green Party I say: We’ll do the maximum for the Czech Republic to stand side by side with those, for whom human rights have the highest priority.
Thank you for your attention.
Katerina Jacques.
MP for the Czech Green Party.
