World Human Rights day was celebrated on the 10th of December. The Falun Gong workshop for human rights showed a movie last Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the local church community centre to celebrate this event. The free event was designed to provide a touching glimpse into the background behind the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China.
In mid-November, human rights activist Min Teng-Schwägerl, resident of Cham, went to Prague to draw attention to this topic. Issuing a press release, she explained that she met with former Canadian Member of Parliament and secretary of state David Kilgour in the capital of the Czech Republic. Together with local human rights organisations, they were protesting against the removal of organs from living Falun Gong practitioners by the Communist Regime.
According to an investigative report by Mr Kilgour and human rights lawyer Mr David Matas, Falun Gong practitioners are used as a living organ repository. Organ theft from live people in China was first reported in March 2006. Shortly thereafter, the wife of a surgeon publicised that her husband had personally removed approximately 2,000 corneas from anaesthetized, imprisoned Falun Gong practitioners in Northeastern China between 2001 and 2003. According to a Chinese military doctor, there are thirty six death camps for organ trade and theft, allegations that have by now been verified.
Teng-Schwägerl called upon all German human rights activists to read the report about the organ thefts. Mr Kilgour was very pleased that the report had been translated into German.
