Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Gao Weiling of Beijing Has Been Detained by Shunyi County Police for Six Months

Xiao Changjun of the National Security Team of Shunyi District, along with a gang of policemen, suddenly surrounded the home of practitioner Ms. Gao Weiling of Wulicang Community in Shunyi District, Beijing. This happened around 7:00 a.m. on August 31st, 2006. Because Ms. Gao and her husband (a non-practitioner) refused to open the door, Xiao Changjun found someone from the local community office and pried open their door in broad daylight. They arrested Ms. Gao and confiscated many items from their home.

The police first sent Ms. Gao to the Shunyi Brainwashing Centre. They planned to forcefully "reform¹" her, but they failed. Then they sent her to the Nihe Detention Centre in Shunyi. They issued the "warrant for her arrest" on October 11th. Ms. Gao's husband has enquired about her and tried to see her. However, the police refused with the following excuse: "She's got a bad attitude." The police will not even allow clothes to be sent in for her. Currently, Ms. Gao is facing a trial in Shunyi District Court. However, those so-called law enforcement institutions have publicly violated the law; they even denied her family members of their lawful right to hire a lawyer.

Ms. Gao is on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. We hope that all the practitioners who can access this message will help Ms. Gao resist this persecution and get free as early as possible.
