Liang Wenjian and her husband have been illegally sentenced to two years in a forced labour camp by the Public Security Bureau in Guangzhou City. Before this, their family members were neither officially informed or allowed to see them. They had no idea where the couple were locked up. As soon as she heard the information, Jane Liang, Liang Wenjian’s sister, a British citizen, sent a letter to the UK government asking for urgent help to rescue Liang Wenjian, her sister and Lin Zhiyong, her brother-in-law.
Liang Wenjian and her husband |
At about 12 noon on the 10th of February, 2007, without showing any legal identification, over ten policemen in plain clothes from the Public Security Bureau in Guangzhou City broke into and searched Liang Wenjian and Lin Zhiyong’s home. They are both Falun Gong practitioners. In the name of an illegal gathering, they took both of them and their five or six friends away to Dashi Police Station in Fanyu.
During the period of over one month when Liang Wenjian and her husband were locked up neither their family members were officially informed of this nor were allowed to see them. Although family members from both sides enquired repeatedly, they did not get any information about where they were detained. Only recently the couple have illegally been sentenced totwo years in a forced labour camp. On hearing the news, Jane Liang (Liang Wenjian’s sister), as a British citizen, again immediately sent letters to the UK Government for urgent assistance.
Jane said, “As soon as I heard the news that my sister and her husband had been arrested, I wrote letters to MPs, MPs from the European Parliament, the UK Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the City Council. On the third day after my sister was arrested, Mr. Roger Helmer, an MP from the European Parliament wrote a letter to the CCP’s Ambassadors in the European Unions and in London asking them to give their explanation about this. My MP said that (The Chinese police) took away people from their own home and have sentenced them two years in a forced labour camp without going through any legal formalities. This is absolutely not tolerated. This is to impinge on the most basic human rights. He has asked the UK foreign mission to raise their strongest outcry to the Chinese authorities. I have also received many letters of support from councillors. Right now, the urgent rescue is in progress overseas.”
When interviewed by Sound of Hope, an International radio station, about this matter, he said: “In the past few years, I have been showing concern to Falun Gong practitioners in China. Previously, I contacted the Chinese Embassy many time about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China, but unfortunately, every time what I received was the same reply. Yet what is different this time is that I am quite familiar with Sao Li, Jane Liang’s husband. On hearing that his relative is being persecuted in China, what I can do is to write letters to Chinese Embassies in Brussels and in London asking them to give their explanation about this matter. At the same time, I hope that they can treat Liang Wenjian and Lin Zhiyong nicely and set them free as soon as possible.”
It is not the first time that Liang Wenjian and her husband have been illegally arrested by the CCP just because of their firmness in practicing Falun Gong. Three years ago, Liang Wenjian was taken away and sentenced to two years. It was Jane Liang, her sister in the UK that did much for rescuing her overseas. At that time, many media in the UK made many reports about it.
Mr. Helmer said, "Activities overseas of rescuing Falun Gong practitioners who are being persecuted in China will be promoted by all governments in Europe and I hope the media pay much more attention to the issue of human rights in China."
When interviewed by Sound of Hope, Zhang Erping, Falun Gong spokesman said, “We are very sorry to hear the news again that Falun Gong the practitioners concerned have been arrested without going through any legal formalities. It is reported that Liang Wenjian and her husband have been arrested by police in Guangzhou, yet neither their family members have been informed nor know what has happened to them. Now they have been judged or put into a forced labour camp. What we are concerned about is: In the actual constitution of the mainland China, Falun Gong is not said to be illegal. The persecution comes completely out of a certain political need. The persecution of Falun Gong is carried out according to so-called policies by the CCP. The so-called law of China is sheer nonsense. ”
“We hope that civilians in China and international communities pay attention to this fact. The most pivotal is that many people in China are involved in persecuting Falun Gong. They should know it very well: What you are doing now is helping the CCP kill people and you are helping a tyrant to do evil. Yet good will be rewarded with good, and evil with evil. All those who are participating in persecuting Falun Gong will never escape from justice.”
