Germany’s ruling Christian Democrats Union (CDU) issued a statement to welcome the Chinese authorities’ promulgation of the regulations governing trading in human organs. However, the CDU emphasised that what’s more important is enforcement, and it also called on the Chinese communist regime to allow independent international organisations to conduct an investigation into allegations of trading human organs.
This statement was co-signed by the CDU’s human rights spokesperson, Ms. Steinbach and the Vice President of the Parliament’s Human Right Committee, Mr. Steinbach, on April 11th, 2007.
The statement pointed out that the Chinese Communist regime has long been criticised for its harvesting organs from criminals awaiting execution without getting their consent. What’s more, it even persecuted Falun Gong practitioners by means of harvesting their organs when they were still alive. The promulgation of the ban is apparently resulting from the pressure of international society and human right organisations.
The statement also indicated that as China always denied the allegation, its making concession this time is tantamount to pleading guilty. As to whether it will be enforced seriously and whether it is simply a gimmick staged to divert international attention remains to be seen.
The CDU thus called on the Chinese authorities to allow independent international organisations to conduct an investigation into allegations of trading of human organs in China.
