Finnish Foreign Student Writes a Letter to an MP, Appealing for the Rescue of her Stepfather Zhang Weijie

It is near the time that the 2007 Europe-China human rights dialogue will be held on May 15th and 16th in Berlin. Foreign student Sunny wrote a letter to Finnish parliament members and human rights organisations to appeal to them help urge the CCP to release her stepfather who was imprisoned illegally and stop the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners:

Dear Sir/Madam:

My name is Sunny Xu. I am from Wuhan city, Hubei province, China. I am now a student studying in Haaga-Helia, Helsinki, Finland. Recently it came to me that an EU-China human rights dialogue aiming at improving human rights in China will be held in Germany on May 15th and 16th. I think it is a good chance for me to ask for help from you when I really do not know to whom else I can go to seek help.

My stepfather, Zhang Weijie, is a Falun Gong practitioner. He started to practice Falun Gong in 1996. After that he recovered from his illnesses including a paralysis that had made him suffer for many years. In addition, he became kinder to others and gave up alcohol, smoking and gambling following the Falun Gong principle “Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance”. It is really a good traditional Chinese cultivation practice because it tells people to be good. However, after the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, my stepfather had been arrested twice and was sentenced to forced labour for one year in a labour camp in 2001. On March 20th, 2007 he was arrested again by the 610 office of Jiang district, Wuhan city and all of his information has been lost ever since. My mother has tried all that she can to find him, but in vain. I worry about his safety very much. More than forty days have passed but all information is still missing. I worry about him even more when I came to know that the CCP is harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners and sell them to make huge profits. Personally I know there is a place in Wuhan city for organs harvesting. Facing the horrible persecution of Falun Gong in China, my step-father's life is in danger every single second.

Every week the Falun Gong practitioners in Finland go to the Helsinki central railway station to tell people what is happening in China. We want to bring the persecution of Falun Gong in China to an end by letting people all around world to know the truth. Only then will the CCP stop the persecution. This is the only thing we can do with our own hands. In mainland China people even do not have the freedom to express their true thought. The arresting of my step-father is a good example of the worsening human rights situation in China. The purpose of the EU-China Human Rights dialogue is to improve this situation. Everyday there are a huge numbers of persecution cases that were reported on the web-sites abroad, and these all reveals that the CCP has never stopped persecuting Falun Gong practitioners since 1999.

As a foreign student here, I do not know where I can go to seek help when I am really worried about my family in China. I hope the Finnish government can help me. Thank you.
