Persecution of Mr. Xie Hongmin and his mother, Ms. Zhang Guangxiu
Mr. Xie Hongmin used to suffer from rectal cancer when he was in his 20s. His family went into debt because of the medical expenses incurred from unsuccessful treatments at hospitals. Mr. Xie then began to practice Falun Dafa and his cancer miraculously disappeared.
After the persecution began on July 20th, 1999, Mr. Xie went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. The Luodai Town police escorted him back and detained him in the Longquan Detention Centre. At that time, it was winter and very cold, but the guards still forced him to take off his clothes and then poured cold water over his head before beating him until his nails fell off and he lost consciousness.
After suffering months of inhuman torture in the Longquan Detention Centre, Mr. Xie was transferred to the Dayan Forced Labour Camp in Ziyang City. A year later, Mr. Xie was released from the labour camp. After he returned home, the village officials continued to follow and monitor him 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
In 2002, Mr. Xie was arrested again and sentenced to four years in jail. He was imprisoned in Guangyuan Prison. In 2006, after serving four years, the village chief of Baiyang Village, Luodai Town, and several other people took Mr. Xie directly from Guangyuan Prison to the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre in Chengdu City.
The Luodai Town authorities detained Mr. Xie's mother, Ms. Zhang Guangxiu, and searched her home several times.
Persecution of Ms. Yuan Xuefen and Mr. Yuan Bin
Mr. Yuan Bin was an outstanding teacher in Luodai Secondary School. In 2000 Mr. Yuan went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong. The police of Luodai Town escorted him back home and detained him in the Longquan Detention Centre for more than 80 days. During his detention, prison guard Luo Yikun and others extorted over 5,000 yuan1 from his family without giving a receipt. They also threatened his family to never disclose the extortion. At the end of 2000, policemen Chen Lin, Luo Yikun, and Cao Xiangqing arrested Mr. Yuan again and detained him in the Xinhua Forced Labour Camp in Mianyang City for one year.
After Mr. Yuan was released from the labour camp, much of his salary was withheld from him. The police also closely monitored him. Whenever a holiday or so-called sensitive date approached, the police arrested him without cause. The police also sent him to the brainwashing centre several times, where he was beaten and deprived of sleep.
Ms. Yuan Xuefen, Mr. Yuan Bin's older sister, started to practise Falun Gong for better health. After practising for some time, she finally knew what it felt like to be healthy. In 2000, Ms. Yuan went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. As a result, the police shut down both of the hair salons she owned in Luodai Town. Policemen Luo Yikun, Chen Lin, Zhong Yun, Cao Xiangqing, and Huang Kuicheng ransacked everything in the salons. The local authorities also forbade any homeowners to rent their places to Ms. Yuan. Ms. Yuan was detained in the Longquan Detention Centre and Chengdu Prison at different times. The police later sent her to Nanchong City for further persecution.
Once Ms. Yuan went to visit practitioner He Youming, who was detained in Xihe Secondary School. The director of the school reported Ms. Yuan to the police, who arrested her. At the station, the police handcuffed Ms. Yuan to a stone bench and did not allow her to eat or use the toilet.
Ms. Ding Shuqing Detained in a Brainwashing Centre and Her Home Ransacked
Ms. Ding Shuqing used to be very ill. As a result, her family spent a lot of money to treat her illness and went into debt. In 1997, the doctors told her that she needed surgery to remove a uterine tumour. Her family was able to borrow 4,000 yuan to pay for her surgery. Before the surgery, she heard that Mr. Xie Hongmin's cancer had been cured from practising Falun Gong, and so she started to practise Falun Gong, too. Soon after, her tumour went away. After the persecution of Falun Gong began, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials of Luodai Town detained her in a brainwashing centre for two months. While Ms. Ding was detained, CCP officials and policeman Chen Lin stole about 3,500 yuan worth of grapes from her vineyard.
Seventy-Year-Old Ms. Zhou Leju Leaves Home to Avoid Persecution
Ms. Zhou Leju is in her 70s. Her husband was an intellectual and was persecuted to death during the cultural revolution. Ms. Zhou worked hard and raised her children alone. She suffered from heart disease, rheumatism, and oedema. After Ms. Zhou started to practise Falun Dafa in 1998, her illnesses disappeared and she became healthy again. When the CCP began the persecution of Falun Gong, she became fearful because it reminded her of the persecution her husband suffered before his death. As a result, she stopped practising. Soon after, her diseases recurred and she ended up spending 1,000 yuan for two days of unsuccessful treatments at Longquan Hospital.
Afterwards, the reasons became clear to her. She started to practise Falun Dafa again and her diseases went away again. When the police from the Luodai Police Station learned about her practising Falun Dafa again, they closely followed and monitored her. They searched her home many times and prohibited her from living with her daughter in Luodai Town. Now she has had to leave home and wander about to avoid further persecution. Police officer Chen Lin said, "Killing or arson is okay, but practising Falun Gong is not."
