Mr. Zuo Zhigang, a Falun Gong practitioner in Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province, was born on July 19th, 1968. He was a certified engineer for repairing computer monitors for Phillips Corporation. On May 31st, 2001, the day before his wedding, Zuo was taken away by police from the Qiaoxi District National Security Team of Qiaoxi District Police Department in Shijiazhuang City. He was tortured to death overnight at only thirty three years of age. His parents still keep the rooms that were prepared for the newlyweds. Zuo's ninety-year-old grandmother still believes her grandson will come home after he finishes his work overseas. His entire family is devastated by his death.
Following the Jiang Zemin regime's policies of "killing of Falun Gong practitioners is nothing and should be counted as suicide," the Procuratorate of Shijiazhuang City, the Public Security Bureau of Shijiazhuang City and medical examiners from Qiaoxi District Police Department in Shijiazhuang City have assisted the police in committing terrible crimes. They provided a false conclusion for Zuo's autopsy, claiming that Zuo Zhigang committed suicide in order to cover up the persecution. The murderer is still at large.
Zuo Zhigang's body is kept at the funeral home by the family in hopes of finding justice one day. In the six years following Zuo's death, his parents have sought justice from many places, but so far they have not been able to find a court to accept their case.
Six years later, the murderer is still at large, and the authorities are still working to destroy evidence. On April 26th, 2007, a public announcement published on page B5 of the Yanzhao Metropolitan Newspaper states that Shijiazhuang City Funeral Management will cremate bodies after sixty days (June 25th, 2007). A similar announcement was made in June 2006. Under the strong request of Zuo's family, his body was kept for another year. It's been reported that the funeral home received an order from the authorities to cremate the body sixty days from the date of this report.
The Qiaoxi District Police Department is using various excuses to avoid the case. They are obstructing the investigation and trying to destroy evidence. After the announcement, Zuo's parents started another round of appeals. They went to visit the chiefs of the Qiaoxi District Police Department and requested to have the lawyer and medical examiner, who represent Zuo Zhigang's family, to re-examine Zuo's body. But those people first said that they needed to study the case, and then they pushed the responsibility to the Procuratorate and the courts to solve the case. Later they accused Zuo's parents for making trouble and refused to let them in. The Qiaoxi District Police Department heads said before that the family is free to have additional autopsies, but when they found a medical examiner, Deng Yinlin, team leader of the Qiaoxi District National Security Team, sent them away. His excuse was that "the law does not permit solicitors, who represent family members, to conduct the autopsy. An autopsy can only be done by the Second Hospital of Hebei Province." When the family members wanted to see the written law, Deng became very hostile. He said, "There is no need for you to see it, it's the law!"
