Taiwan: Waist Drums Move People's Hearts

Sonorous drum sounds filled the Railway Park in Singang Township, Chiayi County, Taiwan. It was a group of Falun Gong practitioners playing the waist drums under invitation of the Singang residents.

A pure heart is merged with the rhythm of the drums

Villagers, old and young, were attracted to the drum playing. Children came in groups. Some families came together. Some sat on the grass. Some stood to watch. It created a carefree scene in the countryside.

Sitting in the shade, an elderly gentleman said, "I have never seen such a wonderful performance. Their scarves flutter. Their drum sounds are powerful. It feels so good to hear it."

A young lady said, "Look! Drums on the waist. It is so charming when they sway their bodies."

Another one said, "You have to view it as a whole. They look glittering all over. Their golden sleeves flutter to the drum beat. I feel so peaceful in the park."

A Falun Gong practitioner who distributed fliers in the crowd told them, "It is the waist drum dance. It originated from lively folklore dance celebrating harvest. It shows the spirit of respecting the heavens, praying for blessing, joy and diligence. The rhyme implies daringness and righteousness of the Chinese farmer."

The villagers were fascinated by the words. More came over to listen. The Falun Gong practitioner explained, "The drum players are all Falun Gong practitioners. They come here today to bring the benefit of Falun Dafa to you. Do you know such a righteous cultivation practice has been under persecution of the Chinese Communist Party for eight years? More than 3,000 Falun Gong practitioners have died from the persecution. Countless practitioners have been thrown into prison and tortured. Falun Gong practitioners around the world have shown their steadfast spirit by telling people the benefits of Falun Dafa and exposing the CCP's evil nature in the past eight years. More than 24 million people have seen the evil nature of the CCP and quit the party and its affiliated organisations."

After hearing the explanation, the villagers looked as if they had finally learned the true story.

There is an art performance in the village every Saturday. However, the Falun Gong waist drum was very special because it gave people a feeling of peace and tranquility.

Following the drum playing was a demonstration of the fifth exercise of Falun Gong. A villager said, "I hope you will be able to come every Saturday. It is great!"
