The guards at Fujian Province Women's Forced Labour Camp maliciously abused imprisoned Falun Dafa practitioners. Placed in solitary confinement, steadfast practitioners were prohibited from seeing their family members and from purchasing food. They were allowed two or three hours less sleep than other inmates and they were prohibited from taking a midday nap. They were monitored around the clock by inmates that were drug addicts, prostitutes, thugs, and other criminals.
Practitioners who remained firm in their faith were closely monitored. Criminal inmates were ordered to observe practitioners' every word and movement, and were to keep records of each practitioner's daily activities. The guards would then act according to this collected information to implement even more severe and heinous torture. Monitoring devices were installed in practitioners' mobile phones. Some individual mobiles also had wiretap devices.
Ms. Chen Yuxian is currently imprisoned in the forced labour camp for the third time. She has refused to be brainwashed and has gone on a hunger strike in protest. The guards have punished her by forcing her to stand for long periods of time. She was even forced to stand through the night for an entire week.
Ms. Xue Zhaohui was also imprisoned at the labour camp for a third time. During a meeting aimed at slandering Dafa, female guard Huang Xiaoyan made an issue out of Falun Dafa leaflets exposing the persecution. "Practitioner" was misprinted as "student" in the materials. Ms. Xue Zhaohui offered a friendly explanation, but as soon as she began to speak, Huang Xiaoyan shouted obscenities at her. During a meeting aimed at slandering Dafa, Ms. Wei Meirong, a practitioner over 50 years old, spoke only one word when several guards dragged and pulled her into a room and taped her mouth shut. The treatment of practitioners who have refused to be brainwashed and who have gone on hunger strikes in protest has been even more inhuman. Guards from other areas who had practised heinous torture on practitioners were invited to the prison to share their tactics. For example, the mouth-opening device that was recently used to force-feed practitioner Ms. Pu Liping is one of the devices prison guards learned about from outside sources.
In most cases, it is not the guards who would actually torture practitioners, but criminal inmates. These inmates are rewarded by having their sentences reduced depending on how dedicated they are to their task. The more ruthless they are towards practitioners, the more time is deducted from their sentences. Criminals who still have some kindness left in their hearts are verbally abused by the guards and their sentences are not reduced. In the detention centre, criminal inmates are openly ordered to commit wrongdoings.
