Around 9:00 a.m. on April 4th, 2000, 64 practitioners went to the Appeals Office of the Yunnan Province Communist Party Committee to appeal for justice for Falun Gong.
When they arrived, several practitioners represented the group to talk to the staff in the appeals office. They peacefully described the wonders of Dafa and asked to have Teacher's [Teacher Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Dafa] name cleared, for the persecution of Falun Gong to stop, to be able to practise legally, and to have all the detained practitioners released. Half-an-hour later, several police cars arrived, as well as two buses and one mid-sized van. Several people from the local media video-recorded the scene. Police were seen everywhere in the courtyard of the provincial party committee. All the practitioners were put on the buses and taken to Wuhua Security Company on Xiyuan Rd, Kuming City; the Border Armed Police Assembly was just across the street. The road to the security company from the provincial party committee courtyard maintained a curfew.
The practitioners were told to write down their personal information. After being photographed and written up, the practitioners were taken to different district police departments according to their home addressed, and then to their local police stations, where they were detained. In some police stations, two practitioners were squeezed into one small cage that was only designed to hold one person. The practitioners were not able to sit or stand inside the cage. However, with auspiciousness and peace in their faces, the practitioners kept dispelling the state propaganda attacking the practice to police throughout the night. Two days later, those who were steadfast in their belief were sent to different detention centres in Kumin City and were detained for half-a-month or one month. Later, over ten practitioners were sentenced to forced labour.
The appeal was videotaped by local media but never publicly broadcast.
Recently, through a secret source, we collected a fax from Yunnan Province Party Committee Office that was distributed internally on April 8th, 2000. It was about the local Falun Gong practitioners' group appeal. This is written evidence that the Communist regime has persecuted Falun Gong. From it, we can also see how illegal, cruel, deceptive, and persistent the regime has been in persecuting Falun Gong.
