Kan Jikui and His Wife Feng Zimei Brutally Persecuted for Their Belief in Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance

Falun Dafa practitioners Mr. Kan Jikui and his wife Ms. Feng Zimei are from Dajiazhuang Village, Tanbu Town, Mengyin County in Shandong Province. They both greatly benefited from Dafa cultivation. Since Jiang Zemin , [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began persecuting Falun Dafa in 1999, Mr. Kan and Ms. Feng have been brutally persecuted by local government officials and police for remaining steadfast in Falun Dafa cultivation.

Ms. Feng's health was poor before she began cultivating, and after she bore a child, she developed more illnesses. To cure her arthritis, heart disease, pancreatitis and other illnesses, Ms. Feng's family took her to many famous hospitals and tried all kinds of prescriptions. Her family spent nearly all of their money and incurred a large debt, but Ms. Feng's health did not improve.

When the situation seemed hopeless, Ms. Feng was fortunate to learn Falun Dafa. After practising Falun Dafa for six months, a miracle occurred--all of her illnesses went away. Ms. Feng's experience led many people to believe that Falun Dafa was good and start to practise, too.

Mr. Kan Jikui saw his wife's dramatic change and realised that Falun Dafa was extraordinary. He also started to practise. He had gastritis and appendicitis, but after practising Falun Dafa, all of his illnesses went away without any treatment. He also eliminated his many bad habits.

After the persecution began, Mr. Kan and Mrs. Feng went to Tiananmen Square to appeal for Falun Gong. They were arrested and detained in the Xinmeng Hotel. The police confiscated 180 yuan¹ in cash from them. Yi Yongtao, Yuan Zhenhai, Liu Yubao and a driver, all from Tanbu Town, repeatedly slapped the couple in the face with books and pulled their hair to knock their heads against the car bumper. The persecutors flogged Mr. Kan and Ms. Feng and poured lots of water over them. Later, the couple was sent to the Mengyin Detention Centre.

In the detention centre, the wardens forced Mr. Kan and Ms. Feng to make 1,500 matchboxes every day. If they did not finish them all, the wardens forced them to work during the night. They were forced to sleep with over ten other people in a cell that was designed to fit only six. Inmates had to take turns stretching their legs during sleep.

After Mr. Kan and Ms. Feng were released, they were taken again to the Tanbu Town Brainwashing Centre. Under Pan Yushan's direction, Zhang Minglei and Tian Yongzhong assaulted Mr. Kan repeatedly. The leather belt they used to beat Mr. Kan broke into pieces from repeated thrashings. One of the persecutors said ferociously, "I was in the army before, and I was specially trained in torture. I have never dealt with anyone as unyielding as you."

In order to "transform²" the Falun Gong practitioners, the wardens attempted to force practitioners to wear insulting signs, swear at the founder of Falun Gong, smoke, drink alcohol, and write a so-called guarantee statement promising to no longer practise Falun Gong. No practitioner cooperated. The wardens brutally beat them and then forced them to do handstands. As soon as a practitioner leaned forward the least bit, the wardens started beating them again. Wardens also used many other brutal torture techniques to persecute the practitioners, such as using cigarettes to burn the practitioners, forcing them to maximally bend their waists, and forcing them to sit on the ground with hands stretched to their toes. Warden Liu Zhen also tried to force practitioners to swear at Dafa. The practitioners refused. Warden Gong Xuefeng used a wooden club to strike Mr. Kan's feet, until the club broke in half.

The brainwashing session lasted for several months. The police not only forced Mr. Kan to attend the session, but also forced his family members to go with him. One day it rained, and Mr. Kan did not go. The police fined him one hundred yuan. Mr. Kan was arrested and taken to the Tanbu Town Police Station by policemen Bu Fanwei, Wu Gan and Miao Shuzheng. They hung Mr. Kan on the basketball hoop for 28 hours. It was during the hottest days of the summer, but the persecutors did not allow Mr. Kan to drink or eat. The police chief Wang Jiquan said insolently, "If I want to sentence you, I can sentence you. If I want to send you to a forced labour camp, I can do that too."

To appeal for Falun Gong, Ms. Feng signed her name on an appeal letter. Police officer Feng Zilin from Tanbu Town deceived her into going to the Tanbu Town Brainwashing Centre. When Ms. Feng got there, she found that over a hundred Falun Gong practitioners were already detained there. Police then split the detained practitioners, transferring them to several places. Ms. Feng was held in the town centre. Interrogators took her to a room and asked her why she practised Falun Gong. She said that she was very sick from birth, but all of her illnesses disappeared when she began practising Falun Gong. Upon hearing that, several policemen started pounding her brutally. The wooden baton broke during the beating.

Mr. Kan was also subjected to police brutality. His palms were severely swollen after being beaten by police, and he could not take care of himself. The officers nonetheless still forced Mr. Kan to maximally bend his waist with hands touching toes. Police also poured water on the ground and then forced Mr. Kan to sit in the puddle. On every CCP sensitive date, police went to Mr. Kan and Ms. Feng's home to harass them. At about nine in the evening on December 19th, 2001, Gong Xuefeng, Wu Gang and seven other policemen broke into Mr. Kan's home. They grabbed Ms. Feng by the hair and severely assaulted her. When Ms. Feng's 13 year-old son questioned the men, they beat him, too. Ms. Feng refused to cooperate with these men, but they forcibly took her and her son to the Tanbu Town Centre. About eight policemen attacked her from all sides. Among the injuries she sustained, Ms. Feng had severely swollen eyes and almost complete vision loss for over a month.

In the meantime, Mr. Kan was fined over 10,000 yuan, and police confiscated his property on over twenty occasions. The police harassed Mr. Kan night and day.

Yi Yongtao, Gong Xuefeng, Zhao Jian, Zhang Jiazhao, Liu Yubao, Bo Fanwei, Wu Gang, Zhang Huadong, Yu Huazeng, Liu Zhen, Zhang Minglei, Tian Yongzhong, Sun Jifang, Wang Mingjun, Xu Jiadong, Sun Chuankun, and Miao Shuzheng in Tanbu Town.
