In April 2007, Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Zhuang Gangxiang, was detained in Changlinzi Forced Labour Camp in Harbin City. He went on a hunger strike to protest the labour camp's despicable practices that force practitioners' relatives to answer questions slandering Falun Dafa and Teacher Teacher [Teacher Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Dafa] before they are allowed to visit. Two days after the hunger strike started, Yang Jintang (male), the head of the ward, intensified the mistreatment of Mr. Zhuang and bound him to a metal chair for five days and nights. Mr. Zhuang's legs were incapacitated for one week after he was released from the chair.
Mr. Zhuang, around 30 years old, is a businessman from Harbin City. He was arrested in a supermarket in early 2006. In April of that year he was detained in the Fifth Ward in Zhanglinzi Forced Labour Camp. He was very frail when he first arrived at the Fifth Ward. Within several days, he vomited, had diarrhoea, and fainted many times when he was sitting on a stool. At that time, he was watched constantly. He was not allowed to close his eyes or to talk to anyone.
Everyone sent to the labour camp must be immunised against diphtheria. Falun Dafa practitioners cultivate to purify their bodies, and all practitioners refused to accept the injection. Although Mr. Zhuang refused the injection, prison guards ordered inmates to inject him anyway. The violent pushing and pulling resulted in the tissue between the thumb and index finger of his right hand to tear apart. It bled profusely. Mr. Zhuang still refused to accept the injection, and the inmates had to give up their attempts.
In early May 2006, Mr. Zhuang was again mistreated, this time by Zhao Shuang (male), the head of the Fifth Ward. Zhao shocked him with electric batons and slapped him. Zhao stopped only after all the practitioners in the Fifth Ward united to protest and demand that he cease torturing Mr. Zhuang. A few days later, Mr. Zhuang was transferred to the Second Ward, and then later to the First Ward.
