Ms. Liu Xiaomei of Shandong Province is Cruelly Persecuted

Ms. Liu Xiaomei, 49, a peasant from Liuzhuang Village, Mengyin County, Shandong Province, has been arrested and her home ransacked by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officers many times since July 20th, 1999, for her belief in Falun Dafa and the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." Her husband was also sentenced to nine years in prison because he exposed the facts about the persecution of Falun Dafa. During the past eight years of persecution, the CCP officials have extorted 14,000 yuan¹ from her, calling it "fines."

Before Ms. Liu became a practitioner, she had many illnesses such as cervical bone hyperplasia, nervous headaches, rheumatoid arthritis, arthritis, sinusitis, and gynaecological problems. When she was 32 years old, she had cervical bone hyperplasia. The disease developed into hemiplegia, a condition which led to her inability to control the lower right side of her body. She couldn't sit when she had a meal; she had to lie down on a sofa. Her right arm was paralysed and her fingers shook uncontrollably. She couldn't do any housework. She had to wear a pair of cotton gloves to keep her hand warm. Her right leg and back ached chronically. She had tried everything she could to get her illnesses cured, but to no avail. Her health deteriorated so severely that she began to think she would be better off dead than alive. During that desperate time, she heard about Falun Gong, which was thought to have healing effects. To give it a try, she went to the practice site. After listening to Falun Dafa video lectures on the third day, a miracle occurred. All her illnesses disappeared. It was the first time that Ms. Liu had ever experienced such a sense of wellbeing and freedom from any illnesses. She was so excited that whenever she met with people, she would say, "Falun Dafa has saved my life."

Her whole family witnessed the magical power of Dafa and they all became practitioners of Dafa, using "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" to guide their behaviour. They always tried to put others' interests first. Her home became cheerful with laughter and the family got along better with their neighbours.

On February 10th, 2000, Ms. Liu was deceived and taken to the Jiapai County Police Station by government officials. Yang Xu, the instructor of the police station, and Shi Kuang, the policeman, pulled her hair and punched her in the face. They punched and kicked her for more than two hours. Her face became swollen and changed shape. They handcuffed her arms behind her back, and her wrists bled. She was put in a dirty garage at night and not allowed to go to the toilet.

The next day in the police station compound, Song Shufu, the deputy mayor; Di Xiaolin, the deputy secretary; Zhang Wenjia, the Captain of the Jiapai Police Station; and all the directors from the town--which amounted to more than 100 people--held a conference aimed at attacking Falun Dafa. Ms. Liu and other practitioners were attacked for more than two hours at the conference. Zhang Wenjia, the captain, and Yang Xu, the instructor, ordered Ms. Liu to come out of the garage. They made her sit on the cement. Zhang asked Ms. Liu whether she still wanted to practise Falun Dafa. She said, "I've learned the exercises. I can never forget."

Di Xiaolin struck the table and yelled, "Go and kill yourself! I will dig out your heart and see if it is still there." He then pointed at the door and said, "Kill yourself outside this door. Don't die in the compound." That day coincided with the town street fair, which attracted a huge crowd of people. They humiliated five practitioners, Liu Xiaomei, Liu Changlian, Yang Shizhen, Li Xurong, and Li Yongying, in front of the crowd by forcing them to parade around the streets with slanderous and defamatory signs hanging on them, inflicting tremendous psychological harm. Finally, the police extorted 5,000 yuan from Ms. Liu before releasing her. She was not given a receipt.

On February 6th, 2001, police officer Shi Kuang, who was holding a wooden stick and stones, suddenly broke into Ms. Liu's home and stole a new colour TV set and a radio.

On February 8th, 2001, Ms. Liu and her husband, Mr. Liu Xiangyi, rode on a motorcycle to visit her family. Just as they arrived in Dashilong Village, they were suddenly blocked by a police car. Five policemen, including Shi Kuang, got out of the car, seized Mr. Liu, and took her to the Jiapai Town Police Station. At noontime, the police went out to eat lunch, leaving one person to look after Mr. Liu. Mr. Liu knew that he hadn't committed any offences and that he shouldn't be held in the police station. When the officer wasn't looking, he went out the door. He didn't dare to go home and lived a fugitive's life.

After the police found out that Mr. Liu had run away from the police station, they tried all they could to catch up with him. At about 5 p.m. that day, the police raided his home. They went back three times at night. Mr. Liu's younger brother's house was also raided. Early in the morning on February 28th, the police burst into Liuzhuang Village and searched every Dafa household to try to find Mr. Liu. They continued the search for many days and caused a big mess in the village. The police even went to the homes of Mr. Liu's relatives to find him. He had no alternative but to hide in the peach orchard. On February 8th, 2002, he was again arrested and sentenced to nine years in Shandong Province Prison.

On June 20th, 2002, while she was homeless and destitute, Ms. Liu stayed in the home of Liu Xiaolian, another practitioner. Police officers Li Fabing, Xue Yizeng, Shi Lei, and others--more than ten altogether--suddenly intruded into Liu Xiaolian's home and toppled Ms. Liu to the ground. They took the pair to the Jiapai Police Station. For six nights, the police handcuffed Ms. Liu to a bench and did not allow her to move or sleep. One day policeman Zhang Wenjia held an electric baton and said, "We can't make you yield, but there's a place that can. Our Communist Party has many methods to control people." Immediately, policeman Yang Xu came with his car and took Ms. Liu to the Mengyin County 610 Office², where she was tortured.

In the Mengyin County 610 Office, Ms. Liu, like other practitioners, was locked in a solitary confinement cell. It was so hot that it felt like a sauna inside the cell. All cells were locked 24 hours a day and the windows were sealed with plywood and nails. Other than a grass mat on the floor, a barrel for human waste, a pot for washing, and a rice bowl, the cells were bare. Practitioners were detained in the solitary cells for long periods of time, and they suffered tremendous mental hardships. A hit man who was also being held there once said, "If I had been locked in there, I would have gone crazy in two hours." Solitary confinement is so cruel, but Lei Yancheng, the head of the brainwashing centre, detained Ms. Liu in one of these cells for 60 days. Wicked people used such forms of torture to weaken the will of Dafa practitioners, trying to force them to give up their belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance."

The CCP villains wouldn't allow practitioners to sleep until midnight. The practitioners had to get up very early in the morning. Because of mosquito bites and inhumane treatment, many elderly practitioners got sick. Except when it was time for sleep, it was absolutely prohibited to lie down on the grass mat. Fang Simin, the deputy director of the Mengyin County 610 Office, and more than 20 other hit men often walked quietly to the door and spied through the gap to see what the practitioners were doing. As soon as the they saw someone lying down, they would pound on the door to scare them. Some practitioners were beaten very badly because they lay down.

In addition to using physical torture to try to destroy the will of Dafa practitioners, villains also forced them to watch videos and look at books, brochures, etc. that defamed and slandered Dafa. They used these fallacies and absurdities to try to brainwash practitioners into denying Dafa. This form of mental torture was even more insidious than the physical torture. They tortured Ms. Liu mentally and physically in the brainwashing centre, and extorted 1,000 yuan from her before releasing her.

Her husband was not at home for six years because of the persecution. Despite the fact that Ms. Liu alone has had to manage their orchard, grow their crops, support their three school-aged children, and work very hard, her face is always glowing with good health and a rosy complexion. She walks as if being pushed by the wind. No one could imagine that she had suffered more than 10 years with cervical bone hyperplasia and other diseases.
