Ms. Zhang Yulan, in her 50s, is a teacher in Tianjin City. She suffered from several diseases before beginning Falun Gong practice. After she began practising, her illnesses all disappeared. She was arrested while distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in March 2002. Later she was imprisoned and tortured in Nankaiqu Detention Centre and then sent to Tianjin City Xiqing Detention Centre. She was sentenced to eight years by the Xiqing Court and she has since been imprisoned in the fourth ward of Tianjin Women's Prison. In the prison, the guards brutally tortured her. Due to long term persecution, Ms. Zhang's illnesses have recurred. Her health is now poor and she cannot not take care of herself.
