Falun Dafa practitioner Meng Xuetao, 38, lived in a dormitory belonging to the radio station of Chongqing City, Yuzhong District, Chongqing City, and he was previously an employee of the Chongqing Branch of the Bank of China. He started practising Falun Dafa in August 1998.
In May 1999, the unscrupulous group headed by Jiang Zemin, [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] took extreme steps to prevent people from practising from Falun Dafa. Mr. Meng took one week off from work to go to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong.
On July 21st, 1999, when he arrived at the People's Plaza in Chongqing City for morning Falun Gong practice, Meng Xuetao saw his fellow practitioners being rounded up by police. So that same day he went to complain to the People's Government of Chongqing City. On July 22nd, Mr. Meng's supervisor called him to his office and asked him to stop practising Falun Dafa, but Meng Xuetao categorically rejected his demand, and that day he left for Beijing to petition again. He was penniless by the time he started for home, so he walked over 40 days along the railway path to get home.
The next day, his supervisor had him sent to the Honglou Hotel, a military guest house in the Xiaojiawan District of Chongqing City, and held him there for 30 days. Meng Xuetao was later dismissed from the bank because he refused to give up practising Falun Dafa.
In December 1999, Meng Xuetao went to Beijing to appeal again, and on New Year's Day of 2000 he did the exercises on Tiananmen Square and was taken away by police. On January 12th, 2000, Mr. Meng was brought back to Chongqing City and detained at the Shangqingsi Police Station. He was later sentenced by the Chinese communist regime to a one-year term of forced labour and held at the Xishanping Forced Labour Camp in Chongqing City.
While imprisoned, Meng Xuetao never gave up practising Falun Dafa. As a result, he was assigned to a group under close watch and was often kept in solitary confinement. One of his vertebra was permanently damaged from being beaten. One day his mother, also a Falun Dafa practitioner, came to see him and found him tied to a bed with tubes in his body. He looked old and drawn. Since Meng Xuetao persisted in his belief, his term at the forced labour camp was extended for one year and he was not released until January 12th, 2002.
Unable to bear the pressure of his son being incarcerated, Meng Xuetao's father suffered from a stroke and died while Mr. Meng was in the labour camp. Meng Xuetao was handcuffed when he attended his father's funeral.
On May 25th, 2005, when Meng Xuetao was at a fellow practitioner's home, police stormed in and took him and the fellow practitioner to Yudong Detention Centre in Banan District of Chongqing City. Mr. Meng was detained for 25 days before being given a two-year forced labour term. Again, he was imprisoned at Xishanping Forced Labour Camp in Chongqing City.
In the camp, Meng Xuetao refused to write, say, or do anything against Dafa. He was subjected to long-term sleep deprivation at the camp. Mr. Meng is about five feet six inches tall, and yet his weight dropped to less than 110 pounds as a result of the persecution at the labour camp. His blood sugar level rose to 20 mmol/l (the normal range should be below 5.2). Meng Xuetao once again survived the ordeal at the forced labour camp and he returned home in May 2007.
On December 28th, 2007, Mr. Meng was reported as he was handing out leaflets exposing the persecution near the Xinhua Bookstore in Shapingba District, Chongqing City. Policemen from the Sanxia Plaza Police Station of the Shapingba District took Mr. Meng to Baihelin Detention Centre in the Shapingba District and kept him in custody for 21 days. On January 17th, 2008, Meng Xuetao was sentenced for the third time and was again sent to Xishanping Forced Labour Camp in Chongqing City for a two-year term.
On January 18th, Mr. Meng's mother visited him and saw that he was pale, frail, and had black rings around his eyes. He told his mother that he was suffering from severe insomnia. On January 25th, Mr. Meng's mother went to visit her son again, but this time the police knew that she was a Falun Dafa practitioner too, so they wouldn't allow her to see her son. It was not easy for a woman in her seventies to travel all the way to the camp in cold weather, and yet the police there prevented her from seeing her son.
We call upon all people with a sense of justice and kind hearts to extend a helping hand, and together help us stop the Chinese communist regime from brutally persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners. We demand that all Dafa practitioners detained be immediately released and that Dafa practitioner Meng Xuetao be released.
