People in Lexington, Kentucky, have been concerned about the persecution of Falun Gong for some time.
The Central Kentucky Council for Peace & Justice has used a whole page to report about the persecution of Falun Gong in their newsletter Peaceways. They have also invited Falun Gong practitioners to speak at their annual conference.
The Council for Peace & Justice at a local community college also reported on the persecution in their newspaper, the BCTC Courier. They have invited practitioners to have a booth at the Peace and Justice Day event every year.
The Franciscan Peace Center and the Interfaith Alliance of the Bluegrass have also supported Falun Gong practitioners.
With help from these organisations, Falun Gong practitioners invited David Matas, a renowned Canadian human rights lawyer, to speak about the persecution of Falun Gong in Lexington in March. Practitioners also showed a film, Beyond the Red Wall, which exposes the persecution.
Mr. David Matas, with David Kilgour, a former Canadian Member of Parliament and Secretary of State for the Asia-Pacific region, have investigated the Chinese Communist Party's harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners. They published a report, composed of 30 pieces of indirect evidence, which concluded that illicit organ harvesting is indeed happening in China.
After the speech, people asked how they could help. Mr. Matas gave some suggestions, such as investigating whether the local hospitals are helping train Chinese doctors in organ transplantation. A local radio station interviewed Mr. Matas after his speech.
