Ms. Wang Yulan, Huailai County, Hebei Province
Ms. Wang Yulan, about 50, was a resident of Langshan Township, Huailai County, Zhangjiakou City. At about 7:00 p.m. on March 1st, 2006, Zhang Jinyu, secretary of the Chinese Communist Party's Wujie Chapter in Langshan Township, observed her distributing Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution. At about 8:00 p.m., Ms. Wang's home was ransacked by Zhang Guoxiao, secretary of the Political and Judiciary Committee of Langshan Township, along with seven or eight township officials and Tumu Town Police officers.
The police arrested Ms. Wang and brought her to the Tumu Town Police Station. Deputy Police Chief Yin Chaobo beat her viciously while attempting to force her to write a guarantee statement that she would stop practising Falun Gong. He beat her face until it was black and blue. At about 9:00 p.m., Yin brutalized her again, this time by grabbing her by the hair and slamming her into the wall. He then put a metal bucket over her head and pounded it repeatedly with a hammer. Ms. Wang felt dizzy and faint and was unable to hear. The following morning, Yin continued to torture Ms. Wang, who was already severely bruised. He used the cord from a hand-crank telephone to give her electric shocks until she lost consciousness.
That night, Ms. Wang was taken to the Ertaizi Detention Centre by Chi Hongqiang from the Tumu Town Police Department. After she was held there for fifteen days, she was returned to the Tumu Town Police Station. On March 20th, Ms. Wang was taken to the Zhangjiakou City Brainwashing Centre, where she was held for seventeen days.
Despite her previously good health, Ms. Wang died in early 2008 as a result of this persecution. She had been subjected to both physical and mental torture.

Ms. Wu Xueqing, Huhhot City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region
Ms. Wu Xueqing, about age 65, was a retired teacher who had taught at the Huhhot City Third Middle School in Inner Mongolia. She was arrested while putting up posters exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in 2002 and sentenced to two years in prison. But she was permitted to serve her sentence outside of prison under supervision. Before the Sixteenth National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in November 2002, Ms. Wu went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. She went to Tiananmen Square to display a banner to appeal for justice. She was arrested again and sentenced to four years in prison.
Ms. Wu was tortured in prison and developed kidney disease as a result. She was then released so her family could care for her. But not only did the CCP fail to supply treatment for Ms. Wu, they actually terminated her retirement and medical benefits. To pay the enormous costs of Ms. Wu's dialysis, her family sold the house they had planned to give one of her sons, who was engaged to be married. Ms. Wu's family lived in fear under these difficult circumstances for several years. In November 2007, Ms. Wu passed away.
