Please Help Rescue My Daughter, Ma Duo--A Letter of Appeal to People of Goodwill

My daughter, Ma Duo, has been held in Jiamusi Detention Centre in Heilongjiang Province for more than five months for practising Falun Gong. She might be sentenced now. I miss my daughter and worry about her. I appeal to all kindhearted people to help stop the cruel and inhuman persecution of kind and innocent Falun Gong practitioners.

This is what happened: My daughter was about to leave for work around 6:00 a.m. on February 13th, 2007. She had just opened the door when a group of police officers barged into our home. They ransacked our home, confiscating my computer and other personal belongings. Three young male police officers dragged me to their car and took me to the suburban Changhong Police Station. Then they went to Ma Duo's place of employment to abduct her. She had already left, but they deceived her into returning. They threatened and forced people at her company to ask her to immediately return for business reasons. Ma Duo returned to her company and was taken to Changhong Police Station. She has since been held in Jiamusi Detention Centre. I was released from detention because of my poor health.

My background information

I used to have many diseases such as insufficient blood supply to the brain, neck vertebrae hyperosteogeny, a gastric ulcer, rheumatism, neurosis, gynecological problems, etc. I had headaches and was scatterbrained all day. Every day I took many kinds of medicine, which was really a nuisance. In November 1995, a colleague told me about the wonderful effect of Falun Gong on a person's health and also sent me a set of Falun Gong lecture tapes. Ever since then I have been healthy and energetic. That painful time of taking so many medicines is over. I practise Falun Gong every day. I stick to the principle of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" and always think of others first whenever I do anything. In my company I always do the hard work first. When my colleague and supervisor saw how I had changed, they all said that Falun Gong is good.

Ever since my daughter started cultivating, she doesn't spare herself but thinks of others first according to the principles taught in Falun Gong. People were deeply impressed with her high morals acquired from her cultivation.

Background information about the persecution and my experiences

In 1999, Jiang Zemin's [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] group started the persecution of Falun Gong. I went to Beijing to appeal. I was arrested at Tiananmen Square and taken to Jiamusi Detention Centre. I was held there for more than 30 days and was then taken to Xigemu Forced Labour Camp in Jiamusi. I was sentenced to three years. I was tortured and badly treated. Every day I was restricted and suffered spiritual torment. I was forced to listen to their lies, and inmates monitored me constantly. Because I refused to renounce my belief, camp guards in turn tortured me. Once they handcuffed me onto the headboard of a bed and tied my legs. They took away the bedding and even most of the bed slats, leaving only two narrow slats placed far apart. There was a big space between the two narrow slats. When I lay on the "bed," it was painful. I lay like this for over two weeks, day and night. Later on they subjected me to a torture called "Carrying a Sword on the Back." They just want to torture Falun Gong practitioners to death.

In April 2003, the camp officials once again subjected me to "Carrying a Sword on the Back." Such excruciating pain is hard to endure; one can become unconscious within several minutes. Eventually one's arms will be disabled. But they handcuffed me like that for two hours. It hurt so much that I was half dead. My red sweater was drenched with sweat, and the sweater's red dye even reddened my outer jacket. When they opened the handcuffs, I had lost all feeling in my arms. After that I couldn't do things well with my hands and couldn't raise my arms. I became a helpless wreck. Even though I was in this condition, they did not release me until six months later.

Persisting in my belief

After returning home I started to practise Falun Gong again. Two months later my hands and arms were restored to normal and I could do household work again. My family was touched by Falun Gong's miraculous power; they all know the facts about the persecution.

Now I worry very much about my daughter. The people she is incarcerated with are criminals, such as robbers and murderers, and this has done great harm to my child's soul. I cry every day but can do nothing about it.

A kindhearted person disclosed to me that when the police learned that I felt better after I practise Falun Gong after returning home, they planned to arrest me again. I chose to leave home and live a hard life away from home to avoid being persecuted.

I hereby appeal to all people of good will: "Help stop these crimes and protect kindness. Please help rescue my daughter, Ma Duo, and bring her home.
