Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Hui Zenghua, 54, lives at Jinqianguanzhuang Village, Tanbu Town, Mengyin County, Shandong Province. Before practising Falun Gong, Ms. Hui had chronic enteritis, serious heart disease, and a skin disorder. Although she was hospitalized and took injections or medicine frequently, her condition did not improve. She was not able to take care of her household chores. After she started practising Falun Gong, all her diseases disappeared. She ate well, slept well, and was able to do her work. She took care of her household chores, as well as her three children and an elderly parent. Her three children also became practitioners after they witnessed the miraculous changes happening in their mother.
After the persecution began, Ms. Hui and her daughter Ms. Gong Shuhua went to Beijing on July 20th, 1999, to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. They were arrested at the bus station, and first detained at a police station for a whole day, and then in a basement for another day and a night. They were then taken back to Tanbu Town, locked in the yard of a government office for two days and two nights, and were forced to pay 200 yuan1 in order to be released.
On February 11th, 2000, Ms. Hui and her three children went to Beijing again. The family was arrested while they were doing the Falun Gong exercises on Tiananmen Square. Police beat them, kicked them, and dragged them into a vehicle. They were detained in a basement for the night. On the second day, the family was handed over to agents from the Tanbu Town government and taken back to their home town. Town commissioner Liu Zhiming ordered the family separated and had them beaten and verbally abused during the night.
Eight days later, Ms. Hui's family was forced to wear derogatory signs, and paraded around town in a vehicle in handcuffs. Ms. Gong Shuhua was punched and kicked until her mouth was bleeding for refusing to wear the sign.
Ms. Hui's family was detained for more than four months. During that time, Tanbu Town agents thoroughly searched their home, seized their TV, washing machine, a wall clock and other items, and extorted more than 8,000 yuan from the family.
Ms. Gong Shuhua, Ms. Hui's daughter, was taken to a brainwashing centre in Tanbu Town. At the centre, government agents and thugs from the village used torture to coerce practitioners to give up their beliefs and write guarantee statements to renounce Falun Gong. Ms. Gong was forced to kneel on a cement path. The agents and thugs punched her, kicked her, and beat her hands with branches whenever she moved. To make her give up her belief, four or five persons beat her every night. Once, they tied Ms. Gong's hands, and suspended her by the arms with her feet dangling, and someone beat her until midnight. Ms. Gong kept silent throughout the ordeal. Zhang Minglei (male) and Zhang Chuiling (female) poured hot water on her head but Ms. Gong remained unmoved. Gong Yanpeng (male) ordered Sun Chao (male) to burn her face with cigarette butts and lighters. Ms. Gong was finally released after three months of torture.
In early May, 2002, a dozen officers from the Tanbu Town Police Station came to Ms. Hui Zenghua's home and arrested her and her son Mr. Gong Pibin while they were making posters exposing the persecution. The police searched their home, tied them up in painful postures, detained them for two weeks, then imprisoned them at the Mengyin Detention Centre for another 28 days. After that, Ms. Hui was sentenced to three years of forced labour. Mr. Gong was sentenced to two years of forced labour. Ms. Gong Shuhua, Ms. Hui's oldest daughter, was forced to flee her home for more than two years to avoid harassment by government agents. While they were away, agents from Tanbu Town searched their home, and dug holes in their yard and even made holes in their dog run.
Li Baoyuan (male), director of Mengyin County 610 Office2, Zhang Yong (male), director of the 610 Office of the county police department, planned and orchestrated the arrest of 13 practitioners in Jiuzhai Township, as well as that of eight practitioners in Mengyin Town. They also searched their homes. In addition, they also arrested an unspecified number of practitioners in Tanbu Town.
On May 22nd, 2008, agents from the 610 Office of the Mengyin County Police Department, Shandong Province, officers from the Tanbu Town Police Station, and Tanbu Town government officials Liu Zhen (male) and Zhang Daqian (male) formed multiple 5-person groups, and broke into and searched practitioners' homes without warrants. In the process, they arrested Ms. Hui Zenghua of Jinqianguan Village, Ms. Yu Ailing of Dongya Village, Mr. Hu Changping of Dongxiya Village.
Realizing the danger, Ms. Hui Zenghua's family locked the gate to their home but the thugs nevertheless broke their door bolt like thieves, searched their home without any warrant, seized their satellite dish and portable audio player, and arrested Ms. Hui Zenghua.
