According to reports, as Sun Guilan and 50 other practitioners were attending the "2001 Shaanxi Province Baoji City Falun Dafa Experience Sharing Meeting" in Caijiapo, Qishan County of Shaanxi Province, the police broke into the meeting place less than an hour after the meeting started. The police beat and kicked practitioners, twisted their arms and seized practitioners by their throats. They forbade practitioners to speak or go to the restroom. All practitioners at the meeting were detained at different detention centres. Sun Guilan was put into Baoji City Detention Centre. She protested the persecution with a hunger strike. She was force-fed by Army doctors at Baoji City No. 60 Hospital and suffocated to death due to the tube being inserted into her trachea.
According to insiders, the experience sharing meeting shocked and frightened the Police Department of Shaanxi Province, which formed a special group and mobilized over a thousand police to handle the case and brutally torture the practitioners. As of today, besides Sun Guilan's death and some practitioners being illegally sent to forced labour camps, seven practitioners regarded as leaders and organizers are still jailed in Qishan County Detention Centre and suffering inhuman torture.
A reporter from the Falun Dafa Information Centre called Qishan County Detention Centre and confirmed the arrest of practitioners attending the experience sharing meeting. However, they claimed that details were "unclear" about Sun Guilan's death.
It was reported on the news that Tai Ming, the former chief of Baoji City Police Department who played an active role in that mass arrest, was sentenced to a 10-year prison term after being charged with embezzling 150,000 Yuan.
Sun Guilan is the second Falun Gong practitioner tortured to death in Shaanxi Province. On February 10, 2000, Yan Huiqin (female, 60) was beaten to death at Shaanxi Province Female Forced Labour Camp by criminals urged on by the guards.
