Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wu Rongjie, arrested on June 12th, 2008, was taken to Shenyang City Women's Prison by Ren Guofan (male), director of the detention centre. Ms. Wu has been holding a hunger strike to protest her arrest. Since she is extremely weak, she is being detained in the Shenyang City Police Hospital. Afterwards, another practitioner, Ms. Feng Li, was secretly taken to Shenyang City Women's Prison. As of now, their families have not been notified.
On the evening of February 24th, 2008, six practitioners, including Ms. Li Yingxuan and Ms. Chu Xiumei, went to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Shenyang City to visit Ms. Gao Yulin, who was critically ill due to torture. They were tracked by four police cars from Qianjin Police Department and arrested. Among these practitioners, Ms. Chen Baofeng was persecuted to death on March 3rd, 2008.
Ms. Li Yingxuan and Ms. Chu Xiumei were both sentenced to six years of imprisonment. On July 8th, 2008, they were taken to the Shenyang City Women's Prison. Ms. Chu's husband works in another city, and their son was left at home alone. To see his mother, the boy stood on the roof of the building opposite the detention centre each day. He said that he could see his mother that way, but could not talk to her. He was unwilling to leave the roof, even if it poured rain, until the day his mother was taken from the detention centre to prison.
Ms. Li Yingxuan staged a hunger strike to protest the persecution. She became extremely weak. At the Balibao Chinese Medicine Hospital in Chaoyang District, she was barbarically force-fed with handcuffs and fetters on. Due to the abuse, she became extremely emaciated.
Mr. Zhang Qi was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment. He was first taken to Jinzhou City, then transferred to Panjin City Prison. Due to the persecution, the family's livelihood was compromised, and his wife led a hard life caring for their two young children.
The above practitioners appealed their sentences, but the police, Procuratorate, and the courts in Chaoyang City quickly turned down their appeals.
Ms. Wang Shuxian, 65 years old, and Mr. Geng Guoge were arrested on June 26th, 2008. They were recently taken to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. Ms. Wang's son, who has a mental disease, has been left at home alone. Someone asked the police officers not to arrested Ms. Wang, as otherwise, her son would have a difficult time. The officers responded, "That has nothing to do with us." Afterwards, Ms. Wang was sentenced to forced labour.
Since February 2008, just in Chaoyang City alone, 48 practitioners have been arrested. Ten were sentenced to long-term imprisonment, one was persecuted to death, four are critically ill, nine were sentenced to forced labour, some were forced to leave home, others were harassed and their homes were searched, and still others were forced to sign a certain statement against their will.
We call for people of conscience to pay attention to this ongoing persecution.
