Ms. Wang Yanfeng, 46, lived in Anlu City, Hubei Province. On April 14th, 2008, Ms. Wang and fellow practitioner Ms. Sheng Cuilian went to the neighbouring Chenxiang Township in Guangshui City to distribute leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong, and both were arrested. Chenxiang Township Police Station Director Yu Bingrong took them to the Guangshui City Domestic Security Division office. They were soon detained in the Guangshui City First Detention Centre. After they went on hunger strike to protest the arrest, they were released when their lives were in danger.

At around 3:00 p.m. on September 4th, 2008, Guangshui City 610 Office1 agents, Anlu City Domestic Security agents, and Jieguan Township local officers again arrested Ms. Wang and Ms. Sheng. Guangshui City Domestic Security agent Fang Hong brutally beat Ms. Wang during the arrest process. The two women were detained in the Guangshui City Detention Centre, where they again held a hunger strike to protest the persecution. They were cruelly beaten repeatedly each time they refused to eat. They both became extremely weak, and Ms. Wang Yanfeng died on September 24th, 2008.

After Ms. Wang died in police custody, the Anlu City 610 Office didn't want Falun Gong practitioners to reveal the truth. They therefore lied, claiming that there were practitioners appealing to higher levels, and ordered the local community and employers to strictly monitor local practitioners, not allowing any activities, trips, and absolutely no appealing. Meanwhile, they cremated Ms. Wang's body and brought her ashes to her home in Jieguan Township. They closely guarded her home and didn't allow any practitioners to attend the memorial service. They closely monitored the telephones of practitioners and didn't allow Ms. Wang's family to contact anyone or disclose the details of her death.

The Guangshui City Detention Centre notified Ms. Sheng Cuilian's family of her weak condition. Her younger brother Mr. Sheng Yuansheng discovered that since September 25th, 2008, his home has been under surveillance. Village officials have not allowed him to go to the Guangshui City Detention Centre.

Mr. Sheng Yuansheng and his family drove to Guangshui City to visit his sister on September 26th, 2008, but there were police vehicles following their car, and they were stopped in Yingshan Community in Guangshui City. More than a dozen police officers surrounded them, and they simply would not allow them to go visit Ms. Sheng Cuilian. Anlu City Domestic Security agent Tang Jian'guo told Mr. Sheng Yuansheng, "I am here to arrest you!"

Mr. Sheng Yuansheng and his family had to turn back home. The police vehicles followed them all the way and stopped them again on the way home. They forced them to stop at the Jieguan Township Police Station. The police tried to arrest Mr. Sheng Yuansheng, but his family prevented his arrest. Mr. Sheng Yuansheng had to escape to avoid the arrest. Later, the police ransacked his home and confiscated Falun Gong books. Mr. Sheng Yuansheng can't return home for fear of being arrested.
