A Village Party Secretary in Hengshui City Persecutes Ms. Li Huanyun

Li Jianru, male, is the Party secretary of Lidezhuang Village in Jieguan Town, Wuqiang County, Hengshui City, Hebei Province. During the Beijing Olympics, officials with the Wuqiang County 610 Office¹, the county Agricultural Department, the county police station, and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Township government of Jieguang Town ordered him to monitor Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Huanyun. Instead, Li Jianru directed others from CCP-related departments to arrest her.

Two days before they arrested Ms. Li, Li Jianru brought in others to investigate how to get into her home and also examined her satellite dish on top of her house. The day they arrested her, the police parked their car near the village and then walked to her home to arrest her.

Ms. Li Huanyun's husband died when she was still very young. She worked very hard to bring up her two children. Now her daughter has married and lives far away. Her son is enrolled in college. Each year she spends over 10,000 yuan² on his educational expenses. In order to make ends meet, besides taking care of her farmland, she also manages a sundry store. She conducts her business fairly and honestly. She is hard working and thrifty.

Li Jianrun never paid when he went to get something from Ms. Li Huanyun's sundry store. He told her to extent him credit and keep a record. This has been going on for the past few years, and he owes Ms. Li several hundred yuan. Li Jianru reported Ms. Li, and she was arrested. She is now detained in a detention centre in Wuqiang County. They have sent her case to the local CCP Procuratorate and Court, and she is facing further persecution.

Ms. Li Huanyun's father, who is over 70, needs his daughter to take care of him. Her son, who is still in college, needs her financial support. There is no one to take care of their farmland.

1. "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.
