Mr. Lu Yuexin and His Wife Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison, Leaving 12-Year-Old Son at Home

Mr. Lu Yuexin and his wife Ms. Huang Manping from Lanshan County, Yongzhou City, Hunan Province, were arrested on March 5th, 2008. They have been held at a detention centre since the arrest. The Lanshan County Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Court sentenced the couple to seven years in prison.

Mr. Lu Yuexin is 51 years old and was employed at the Lanshan County Light Machinery Factory. He suffered a stroke and retired early, and then became a tricycle rickshaw driver. His wife, Ms. Huang Manping, 49, is a street vendor selling dry foods. After the couple began practising Falun Gong, they followed the principles of Truth-Compassion-Forbearance. Mr. Lu's thrombosis disappeared soon after beginning the practice. The couple both became healthy and their businesses flourished.

In 1999, after the CCP began persecuting practitioners, the couple went to Beijing to appeal. They were arrested four times, had money extorted from them, and they were physically and mentally abused.

At 10 a.m. on March 5th, 2008, Ms. Huang Manping went to the countryside to visit relatives and took the opportunity to expose the persecution to fellow villagers. She was reported to the police by a villager named Huang Fucai. Domestic Security Division captain Huang Xiaolan and officers Zeng Xianmin and Hu Jia arrested her. Under orders from Huang Xiaolan and Duan Guofang from the local 610 Office¹, the police drove seven cars to Ms. Huang's home and ransacked it. According to people at the scene, they confiscated five or six sacks of the couple's belongings and arrested Mr. Lu Yuexin.

The Lanshan County CCP Court sentenced the couple to seven years in prison. Since their arrest, Mr. Lu's mother's health has deteriorated. She is now suffering from a variety of physical problems including coronary disease, vertigo, kidney stones, and numbness in her legs and feet. The couple's 12-year-old son is left without his parents' care.
