A 10-year old girl in southern China’s Sichuan province was slapped by police and shut in an iron cage for giving her teacher a Falun Gong brochure.
Police later ransacked her home. Both of her parents were arrested on August 7th.
The family migrated to Yaan City, Sichuan Province because of their jobs. The girl, Cheng Siyang, went to the local Town Central Elementary School.
According to a classmate, Siyang had told her about the benefits of Falun Gong, and how it taught people to be kind. She had also told her friend that it was wrong for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to persecute Falun Gong.
The trouble started after Siyang gave her teacher, Cheng Zhongtao, a brochure about the persecution of Falun Gong.
Her teacher called the police and the police captain Gou Yongqiong and two other policemen came to the school and abducted the 10-year-old.
Her classmate also said that the police captain had slapped Siyang repeatedly, used fetters and handcuffs on her, shut her in an iron cage, and shouted at her continuously. Gou also gave each student 1 yuan (US$ 14 cents) to encourage them to report similar situations. Some students refused to take the money, she said.
The police charged into Siyang’s home by 9 p.m. the same day, without any legal procedures. They abducted her parents and confiscated all of her belongings, leaving no documents or legal reasons.
Siyang returned to school on August 11th, with bruises all over her body.
While her schoolmates looked at her with sympathy, her teacher threw her school bag out of the classroom in a rage and refused to let her to attend the class. Siyang left school in tears, returning to her empty home.
Siyang tried to return to school again on August 18th to exchange an unused cafeteria meal ticket for money because she had none.
The principal Yang Jiasen called Siyang to her office and gave her a new bicycle to apologize for what had happened.
Siyang’s parents are still missing and she has no way to pay the rent for their home. She has been made homeless.
Siyang’s case is just one of countless during a period of intensified persecution of Falun Gong by the CCP because of the Olympics.
