Ms. Wu Chuanying from Linli County, Hunan Province Sentenced to Eight Years in Jail

Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Wu Chuanying, was an employee of Linli County Supply and Marketing Cooperative but was laid off. She has been arrested and detained six times for practising Falun Gong.

Before she started to practise Falun Gong, she suffered from diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, periarthritis, prolapse of the lumbar intervertebral, cervical vertebra hyperplasia, and neurosis. She was tortured by the pain and diseases for more than ten years. She was in such agony that she tried to kill herself by taking rat poison.

In March 1999, she began practising Falun Gong. She came to know the meaning of life, which is to value virtue, be kind, and return to one's original true self. Since then, she felt her body and mind purified and she looked like a different person.

In February 2000, she went to Tiananmen Square to appeal for Falun Gong. She shouted "Falun Gong is good," "Falun Gong is righteous". She was arrested in Beijing and detained at the county detention centre in her home town when she returned home. She was handcuffed, shackled and tortured for ten days before being sentenced to one year of forced labour. But the forced labour camp refused to accept her due to her ill physical condition. Local officials locked her up in the county detention centre for two and a half years. She went on a hunger strike to protest and wasn't released until she was on the brink of death.

From November 2004 to November 2005, Ms. Wu Chuanying was arrested four times. She was brainwashed and sentenced to three years in jail for not giving up her belief. She went on a hunger strike to protest. In April 2006, she was subjected to forced intravenous drug injection in a hospital, though she managed to walk out free.

Six months later, she was arrested once more and sentenced to eight years in jail. She was sent to the Changsha Women's Prison in Hunan Province and forced to undergo brainwashing and torture, leaving her deeply traumatized . She was extremely weak. In 2007, she was transferred to the county detention centre.

In the county detention centre, she kept on practising the exercises, and telling people the truth about Falun Gong. She slowly recovered. In 2008, the police detained her in the Changsha Women's Prison again.
