Mr. Yu Liangbin is a researcher at the Suihua Branch of Heilongjiang Province Agriculture Science Institute, specializing in rice. He is over 70 years old and is a steadfast Falun Gong practitioner. He was arrested in October 2006 in Suihua City, Helongjiang Province. Wang Shubo, Li Jiangfei, and others from the Beilin District 610 Office1 in Suihua City were involved in his arrest. Mr. Yu Liangbin was sentenced to three years in jail in 2007 and is currently in Daqing Prison.
During the entire time he has been detained, his family members have only been allowed to visit him once. Prison authorities have turned down all subsequent requests to visit, using the excuse that Mr. Yu refuses to give up his belief in Falun Gong. In October 2008, he wrote an appeal letter to the provincial procurator's house, but the letter was intercepted by the head of the No.6 Division, Li Weinan. Li Weinan was very annoyed after reading the appeal letter. In a fit of anger and for revenge, he viciously hit Mr. Yu in the face with such force that he actually broke many of Mr. Yu's teeth. Li Weinan used to be the director of the No.4 Division, where he viciously beat several practitioners over the years.
On December 4th, 2008, Li Weinan hit Mr. Yu again when he refused to answer roll call. Li then threatened, "I will find an empty room, and then I'll see who still wants to practise Falun Gong!"
Yu Liangbin was taken to Helan Prison on June 27th, 2007, before being detained in Daqing Prison. He was detained in the Assembly Division, where he was brutally tortured. The prison guards instigated five inmates to torture him. He was forced to stand straight upright for long hours over 10 days' time. In the beginning, he was only allowed to sleep for two or three hours a day, but later, he was not allowed to sleep at all. Four inmates were ordered to take turns watching him and then beat him if he fell asleep. They sneered, "We will make you wish that you were dead!"
We call upon all kind hearted people worldwide to pay attention to Mr. Yu's case. Let us join together to stop the persecution!
