On April 25th, 2006, Ms. Zhu Yifang from Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, was forcibly taken from work by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents. She was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment at Chuanxi Prison. After being subjected to constant torture at the prison, Ms. Zhu developed oedema and kidney failure in November 2008. Her back and legs were so swollen that she was unable to get out of bed. Her abdomen was also severely swollen.
At one point, the prison sent Ms. Zhu to the Police General Hospital of the Pubic Security Bureau. She was in critical condition and was sent back to the prison because the hospital did not want to take responsibility for her death. Prison authorities stated that if she still refused to give up practising Falun Gong and write a repentance letter1, then she would never be released even if she died in prison.
Ms. Zhu Yifang is 45 years old. She was an official at the Chengdu Office branch in Guangyuan City. She began practising Falun Gong in 1997, and quickly recovered from her illnesses. On February 26th, 2000, when she explained the facts of Falun Gong and the persecution to the police, she was deceived into going to the Huangwajie Security Office. Later, she was detained at Lianghua Village Detention Centre and locked in an iron cage.
During her detainment, the police from The Huangwajie and Yingmenkou Security Offices and Defence Team occupied Ms. Zhu's home. They ate, drank and played cards in her home and left the air conditioner and lights on all day and night. They also stole her son's computer, printer, stereo and Falun Gong books. They damaged her furniture and forced her son out of the home.
During the evening of March 5th, 2001, more than ten people, including the Yingmenkou Security Office police and staff from the Street Committee, broke into Ms. Zhu Yifang's home, and dragged her from the third floor into a car waiting downstairs. They detained her in the so-called "Law Study Class" for 20 days and forced her to attend brainwashing sessions.
In February 2002, when it was almost Chinese New Year's Day, the CCP Office in Guangyuan City was holding brainwashing sessions. 610 Office2 agents and the police from the National Security Office and the Public Security Office went to Chengdu City to try to arrest Ms. Zhu. A kind person tipped her off and she left home to avoid arrest.
On September 29th, 2002, when Ms. Zhu was on her way to run errands, out of nowhere, the police pushed her down to the ground from behind and dragged her into a taxi. She was then taken to the Jiuliti Security Office and tortured for over 10 hours. She was later transferred to Chengdu Detention Centre at around 1:00 a.m.
In July and August 2004, Ms. Zhu was put under house arrest by the police. Only after she explained the facts about Falun Gong to the Street Committee did the police leave her home. In October 2005, she was forced to leave home for half a year by the 610 Office in Guangyuan City, the National Security Office, the Public Security Office and the 610 Office in Chengdu City.
The ongoing persecution of Ms. Zhu by the police has devastated her family. Overcome with great fear and concern for his daughter, Ms. Zhu's father's health worsened and he later passed away.
At around 2:40 p.m. on April 25th, 2006, the police from the Guangyuan Public Security Bureau arrested Ms. Zhu Yifang again. Along with the Chengdu Public Security Office, they ransacked her home and detained her in Guangyuan City.
On October 8th, 2006, Ms. Zhu was sentenced to seven years in prison by the Guangyuan CCP Court. She is now detained in the Women's Sixth Division of Chuanxi Prison.
