Torture Suffered by Ms. Wang Wenqi at the Wangcun Forced Labour Camp in Shandong Province

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Wenqi (from Rushan City of Shandong Province) was arrested because she was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong. She was sentenced and taken to Wangcun Labour Camp. She suffered brutal torture at the labour camp. The following is what she experienced.

Wang Wenqi is from Dongji Village of Yuli Township in Rushan City. She is in her 50s. She distributed Falun Gong materials with fellow practitioner Song Shufu on the evening of May 6th, 2008, to explain the facts about Falun Gong to the public who have been deceived by the communist propaganda.

They were seen by a middle-aged man, who reported their activity to Guo Baozeng, the security head of the village. They threatened Wang Wenqi, trying to coerce her to tell them who else had been with her. Ms. Wang said she came by herself, so they grabbed her, kicked and beat her. Wang Wenqi said, "Go find your village Party secretary. I have something to say to him." They found village Party secretary Guo Xuzeng. Then Wang Wenqi started to explain the facts about Falun Gong to all those present. However, Guo Baozeng and the middle-aged man still reported her to the local police station.

Hoping to give her colleague an opportunity to avoid arrest, Wang Wenqi shouted while running: "Falun Gong is good!" By then Guo Baozeng and the man caught up with and mercilessly beat her. Village Party secretary Guo Xuzeng just watched by the side. That night around 11:00 pm, Wang Wenqi and Song Shufu were taken to the Rushan Detention Centre.

After arriving the detention centre, a guard compelled Wang Wenqi to squat. Wang Wenqi said that she cultivated Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and was innocent. She refused to squat. The guard on duty took off his shoes and hit her right eye. Her eye bled and she lost her sight right away. The area surrounding her eye became black. They cuffed Wang Wenqi to an iron gate. Song Shufu was beaten into a coma.

Wang Wenqi began a hunger strike to protest. On the third day she was pulled out and taken to the monitoring room for force-feeding. Wang Wenqi shouted: "Falun Gong is good!" She told every detained person to "remember that Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!" By that time, the guard kicked her in the mouth which made her mouth full of mud. Shortly afterwards, without any permit, the police dragged Wang Wenqi and Song Shufu to the car. Without even notifying their families, the police took them to the Wangcun Labour Camp for three years of forced labour.

Wang Wenqi was sent to the second division of the camp. The first step in the persecution of all practitioners held there is to deprive them of sleep. Those who could not withstand this would be intensively brainwashed until they couldn't resist any longer, turning to the opposite side.

On May 13th, after Wang Wenqi came back from the toilet, she saw some practitioners who had suffered excruciating torture and, against their will, had given up. They looked very depressed. Many of them were ladies in their 60s and 70s. Besides their spiritual worries, they had to perform physical labour for more than ten hours a day. Looking at them, Wang Wenqi burst into tears. She shouted loudly: "Falun Gong is good!" The guards jumped onto her and pushed her to the ground. They sealed her mouth and dragged her to a toilet in one of the buildings. After a while, they pulled the seal off and inserted a towel into her mouth. The towel reached Wang's throat and suffocated her. When she was almost out of breath, they pulled out the towel, now drenched in blood. Because they inserted towel into her mouth so forcefully, one of Wang Wenqi's upper teeth came out and a false lower tooth squashed in the tooth bed to cause much bleeding. It was so painful that she could not eat regularly for several days.

After that day, Wang Wenqi was forced to sit on a small stool (a form of torture) around the clock. Her legs had to stay together and her hands had to remain on her knees. She was not allowed to move or sleep, and she was not even allowed to use the toilet or take a bath. (Because Wang Wenqi had serious heart problems since she was beaten at the village and labour camp, the labour camp officials were afraid to take responsibility for hanging her up or to use other excruciating means of torture.) She was not allowed to sleep for four days and nights. Wang Wenqi fell to the ground. The police instigated drug offender Zhang Hui (from Qingdao City) to beat and kick Wang Wenqi with the stool. One leg of the stool was broken because of this. She hit Wang Wenqi on her slowly recovering eye with her fist. The eye started bleeding again. Since then Wang Wenqi cannot see clearly with her right eye. The head guard, Zhao Wenhui, sneered and said, "You don't yield? How about [if you] stay in the toilet for three years? [You would] choose to yield." Wang Wenqi replied, "I didn't commit any crime and would not stay here for three years." After dozens of days, Wang was sent to the office to sit on the small stool. She was not allowed to go to sleep until midnight or one o'clock. Her buttocks became sore ridden. When the police saw that all they did was in vain, they didn't allow Wang Wenqi to defecate. Wang Wenqi told them, "Eating, drinking, sleep, and relieving oneself are necessary for all. How could you deprive them? China's Constitution forbids you to do so." When Wang Wenqi was about to defecate, they had to hurry to bring the chamberpot.

One month later, the answer they still got from Wang Wenqi was: "Falun Gong is good! Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!"

Because Wang Wenqi refused to renounce her faith in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, the guards locked her up in the toilet. They did not allow her to sleep or move for 24 hours. They beat her whenever she closed her eyes. She could not sleep for eight days. Exhausted, she finally collapsed onto the floor. They all together mercilessly beat her. She could not stand up. They poured water on the floor. The drug offender Zhang Hui stamped on Wang's feet with her feet. A blood vessel broke on Wang's feet. Her feet swelled and turned black. They also spit water on Wang's face. Wang had to lie in the dirty water on the cold floor. Her buttocks had festered and grew incrustations.

Wang Wenqi was assigned heavy labour. Because her vision was reduced a lot by the beatings and her heart problem was very serious, she lived every moment on the edge of life. On November 14th, 2008, she was able to end the dark days of more than six months in the Labour Camp.
