Ms. Mi Hong Persecuted at Jilin Women's Prison

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Mi Hong is 43 years old, college educated, and lived in the Changyi District, Jilin City. On July 11th, 2008, officers from Dongjuzi Police Station tricked Ms. Mi into opening her door by telling her that they were consultants to help with college applications. Ms. Mi was then taken by police to the Xiushan Brainwashing Centre because the "Olympic torch was arriving in Jilin City. " Later, the captain of the State Security Unit of Changyi Police Sub-Bureau, Du Xinze, and a group of police searched Ms. Mi's home and took her to Jilin City Detention Centre. On September 22nd, Changyi District Court sentenced Mi Hong to five years in prison without first notifying her family about the trial. The officer repsonsible, Dang Lianhong, claimed that because Ms. Mi is an adult the court was not required to notify the family.

On the afternoon of December 30th, 2008, Ms. Mi had a heart rate of 120 beats per minute and was in critical condition. However, the police still sent her to Jilin Province Hezuizi Women's Prison for further persecution.

When Ms. Mi's family saw her at the prison, they learned how the authorities had been attempting to "transform¹" her through brainwashing and torture. All of the Falun Gong practitioners sent to the prison had been forced to undergo brainwashing, which involved mental and physical abuse. Usually four or five collaborators² try to brainwash a newcomer. They use sleep deprivation and other torture methods to persecute practitioners. The prison guards even shamlessly boasted: "Other than those who have died, all [Falun Gong practitioners] have been transformed [at this prison]!"
