Niu Wanjiang and His Wife from Lanzhou City Have Endured Nine Years of Persecution

Niu Wanjiang is a Falun Gong practitioner from the Qilihe District, Lanzhou City, Gansu Province. He was sentenced to three years' imprisonment and spent one year in a forced labour camp. In September 2005, he was taken to the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Centre where he is still undergoing abuse. His wife, Zhang Zhenmin, was arrested on May 3rd, 2005. She was sentenced to eight years in prison and is currently doing forced labour in the Jiuzhou Women's Prison in Lanzhou City. Following are details of their situations.

Mr. Niu Wanjiang, 45 years old, was employed at the Lanxi Railway Company. His 44-year-old wife, Zhang Zhenmin, worked at the Lanzhou Meat Company. They lived in the Kangleyuan subdivision in the railway residential area, Chengguan County, Lanzhou City. Prior to beginning the cultivation, Mr. Niu had severe heart disease and couldn't climb stairs. Visits to many doctors were a huge financial burden for his family and his employer. Unable to find a cure, Mr. Niu was fortunate that someone introduced him to Falun Gong, and he began practising soon after. He recovered. The illness disappeared, and he could climb seven flights of stairs, even carrying a heavy load. During holidays he went with colleagues to climb a mountain. His colleagues felt the miraculous power of Falun Gong.

Niu Wanjiang shared the practice with his wife, but she could not accept the practice at that time. After July 20th, 1999, the persecution of Falun Gong started. Ms. Zhang Zhenmin saw the government's defamatory TV programmes about Falun Gong and realized they were completely opposite to what she observed in her husband. To learn the truth, she read a Falun Gong book and realized that her husband was following the principles of Falun Gong. What was broadcast on the TV was in complete opposition to the Falun Gong principles. She realized that the TV propaganda was based on lies and deception, and that her husband was a good person. Faced with these realizations, Zhang Zhenmin began practising Falun Gong herself. She used to suffer from tracheitis and headaches and great pain from a hip fracture. She was in great pain each time she climbed the seven floors to their apartment. Since beginning the practice of Falun Gong, her illnesses have disappeared.

The two practitioners became the target of persecution. They had to leave their young child and elderly parents at home and became destitute and homeless to avoid arrest.
