Ms. Gao Yueyuan, Director of the Nanyang Fine Arts Association, watched the last show by Shen Yun Divine Performing Arts on February 23rd, 2009 in Tainan, Taiwan. She indicated that she had read many positive reports about Shen Yun and wanted to see it for herself. She was so moved by the performance that she wrote a poem about it. She was grateful to God for the opportunity to have such a feast for her soul. Below is her poem:
As the gorgeously costumed dancers move in stunning patterns they bring great joy and a world of peace to all.
Ms. Gao has several decades of experience in oil painting, calligraphy, ink painting, and engraving. In recent years she has written many poems in a Taiwanese dialect. Her works are highly regarded by art professionals. She said, " Shen Yun Divine Performing Arts is a show that combines art and culture. The lighting, backdrops, and colorful costumes are of a high artistic standard. It is truly a moving show."
"When Shen Yun Divine Performing Arts came to Taiwan, there were many reports about it. I searched the internet to find out what it was about. Tonight I came to see for myself, and it was well worth my time. To combine culture with art is a kind of inheritance. You must come to personally experience it in order to reap the joy it has to offer."
What moved Ms. Gao the most is the scene showing the love God has for sentient beings. She understood from the show that one must treasure one's life, have love in one's heart, and faith in God. She is a Christian and she is amazed by the love the Falun Gong practitioners have for sentient beings. She said,"We all have our impressions about Falun Gong. To me the most impressive part is how to let people know that Falun Gong is doing its part for its love of life. I feel that love and God are important elements in life. Without faith there is no love and there is nothing more to say. The message I got from the show is that one should treasure life and use love to help and deal with each other."
After seeing the show, Ms. Gao has a picture in her mind. She loves the colourful costumes and how the backdrops match with the dancers. She believes any painter would be inspired to paint a picture after seeing the show. What she would like to paint is to show the love of God. She said, "I would like to add the love of God to the colourful characters in my picture. Later when you see me, you will know that I have watched the Shen Yun show. I shall put my picture on the Internet along with a statement on how I feel. This is what I would like to do."
Ms. Gao also said that the show helped her use colour and add an element of culture to her work. To her, colour and culture are the most attractive parts of the show. She added smilingly, "Painters actually have a very wide scope. We do not restrict ourselves. However, the colours I saw in the show were so impressive to me that I believe my future work will move up a step. Thank you."
Finally, Ms. Gao commented about the music. She enjoyed the drums and the singing of Ms. Yang Jiansheng. She thought that a vigorous alto is rare to find. She said, "That drum playing was very uplifting. I was taken by surprise by Yang's singing. It is so rare. I have never listened to something so extraordinary. Most of us have heard tenors, but rarely altos. That is why it is so impressive."
