Young Woman Tortured in the Hainan Province "Legal Education School" Brainwashing Centre

Ms. Chen Zhuoyi, 33, from the Chikan District of Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, has been cultivating Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in Falun Gong for over eleven years. Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began its persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Chen has persevered in telling people the facts about the persecution, resulting in her being brutally persecuted and traumatized both physically and mentally (see: http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2008/2/9/94173.html.) She was arrested on April 14th, 2008, while distributing informational materials in the family housing area, and was taken to a brainwashing centre in the Chikan District of Zhanjiang City. On April 28th, she was taken to the brainwashing centre (so called "Legal Education School") in Hainan Province for more intensive persecution.

The brainwashing centre in Haikou City, Hainan Province, is located on the first floor of the Jinken Hotel of the Farm Developing Bureau. It is surrounded by iron gates and guarded by six policemen. When they took Ms. Chen there from Zhanjiang City, she was handcuffed the entire way. On her arrival, they kept her handcuffed and added shackles, kept her in the innermost room of the hotel, and began three full months of physical and mental torture:

1. Ms. Chen was deprived of sleep around the clock. The so-called "teaching assistants" were divided into two-person groups that took turns watching her. Due to prolonged loss of sleep, she often had a headache, felt dizzy, had blurred vision, suffered hearing loss, and fainted many times.

They slapped her head and shoulders with Falun Gong books for hours every day, which hurt and numbed her.

3. They beat and kicked her, and told the guards to help them torture her. They forced her arms back, and bent her hands against her wrists, causing extreme pain. They also slapped her face several times, causing it to bleed and swell. Her body was always bruised all over from the beatings during the three months.

4. With her hands cuffed to the chair, they whipped her buttocks, broke shoes against her back, used bamboo sticks to whip her back and thighs, pinched and bruised her belly, and scrubbed her mouth with brooms.

5. The assistants cuffed Ms. Chen to the chair at first, then cuffed her to the window in the restroom around the clock, except for mealtimes. Even when her hands and feet were swollen and turning blue, and she was unable to support herself, she was still not let down. The torture lasted for a month. Later they changed to cuffing one of her hands up high and let only her toe touch the ground, causing her fingers to go completely numb and cause her extreme pain. When she was being cuffed and hung up, they pushed her against the wall, pinched her, thrust Falun Gong books under her feet, and, while holding her foot, made her stomp on them.

6. They continually insulted and slandered Falun Gong around the clock every day. They tried all sorts of nonsense to brainwash her. They tore up Falun Gong books in front of her.

7. Several "teaching assistants" and policemen held Ms. Chen to a chair, and force-fed her with alcohol, saying that they wanted her to drink since Falun Gong teaches practitioners not to drink alcohol.

All practitioners held in the Hainan Brainwashing Centre were tortured this way if they did not "transform¹" within a certain period of time.

The main perpetrators of the persecution are the twelve "teaching assistants." Their names are: Officer Feng (it was said that he was transferred from the Public Safety Ministry), Chen Haihua, Liu Tianpeng (now has been transferred to a prison in Hainan Province as a guard), Huang Guomin, Jiang Haiwen (wife of Huang Guomin), Xiao Yongmei, Zhuang Xuewen, Sun Yingqin, Chen Haiming, Lin Xiong, Song Yuesheng, and Mou Meiling (wife of Song Yuesheng). Among them, Chen Meihua was the group lead. Chen, and Liu Tianpeng, Huang Guomin, and Jiang Haiwen are the ones who hit people the hardest. Because they achieved a higher "transforming" rate with their torture methods, they were often invited to other brainwashing centres to share their experiences, and to persecute practitioners elsewhere. It was said that they have been to Dongkou and Nanning Brainwashing Centres in Zhanjiang City to persecute practitioners.
