At 3 p.m. on February 29th, 2009, 58-year-old Ms. Zhao Qiuying from Beijing was taken away from her own clothing booth by four policemen from the Dongsheng Police Station in the Haidian District.

When the police arrived at the booth, they surrounded it, intending to take her away. Ms. Zhao did not cooperate with them, but they started a search and found two brochures that explained the facts about Falun Gong. Afterwards, they dragged her into a police vehicle. At around 4 p.m., the police vehicle arrived at Ms. Zhao's home. The police searched her home and took away a Falun Gong book, two brochures, and five or six CD's.

That night, Ms. Zhao's family learned that she had been taken to the Qinghe Detention Centre. An officer from the Dongsheng Police Station said, "In such a case, if she was not sentenced before, in fifteen days she will be transferred to the Tuanhe Forced Labour Camp, where she will be detained for between 6 and 18 months." When Ms. Zhao's family asked the reason for her detention, the policeman said, "She practised the Falun Gong exercises at Wudaokou."

Ms. Zhao Qiuying started to practise Falun Gong in 1996. Before practising, her health was very poor and she suffered from many illnesses, including cervical spondylosis, lower back pain, and headaches. After practising, she benefited both mentally and physically. After the persecution of Falun Gong began, Ms. Zhao was taken to brainwashing centres twice, and her home was searched once because she did not give up her belief.

Currently, Ms. Zhao Qiuying's whereabouts are unknown.
