Disabled Practitioner Arrested, Now in Critical Condition

Disabled practitioner Mr. Chen Jinjing from Zhoukou City, Henan Province, is being held in a detention centre. Around March 18th, 2009, he was taken to the Zhoukou City Centre Hospital for check ups every day for three days. The doctors found that both of his legs were disabled, his blood pressure was unstable, and there were serious problems with his brain, heart, and other organs. If he did not receive immediate medical treatment he would be paralysed very soon, and he might even die. Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officers from Zhoukou City and Sha'nan Police Department Domestic Security Division Captain Gao Feng refused to release Mr. Chen.

Mr. Chen Jinjing is approximately 60 years old. He used to be the director of the Engineering Supervision Bureau of the Zhoukou Area. On January 9th, 2009, he was arrested again by the CCP. He was detained in a detention centre, and his previous illness recurred. His legs became very painful, so Mr. Chen had to lie on the floor. He had to be carried by two people to use the toilet. Nevertheless, the CCP from the Zhoukou City still controlled the local Procuratorate to issue arrest warrants against Mr. Chen, Mr. Wang Tianyu, Ms. Wang Aizhi, and Mr. He Jinliang, and tried to have them sentenced.

Mr. Chen had a very serious car accident in the past. One side of his body, from his head, face, arm, and shoulder to his hip, leg, and foot, were all injured. After emergency treatment he survived, but one leg was permanently disabled. Especially during the winter or on rainy days, his old injury made him suffer a lot. He couldn't go to work and retired in his 40s due to the disability.

In the spring of 1996, Mr. Chen started to practise Falun Gong. Not long after he started practising the exercises, his condition started to improve. Although he still limped when he walked, his other injuries from the accident did not hurt anymore, and he didn't suffer in bad weather anymore; his personality even became better. He was very grateful to and appreciative of Falun Gong.

He was arrested three times by the CCP because of his belief in Falun Gong. The first two times were at the beginning of the persecution. The Xiangcheng Domestic Security Division leader, Ma Zhefeng, ordered the police to arrest Mr. Chen, and he was taken to the Xiangcheng Detention Centre. The first time he was detained for several months, the second time he was detained for almost a whole year. Because of the poor living conditions, heavy labour, and poor food, Mr. Chen's health worsened, and his old illnesses recurred. His upper body became stiff while he could barely move his lower body.

After he left prison he recovered to a certain degree, but sometimes he was well and sometimes he was ill. When it was serious, he couldn't get out of bed. He was in severe pain when he moved, and usually he had to try for more than an hour with the help of his family just to get out of bed.

At around 9 a.m. on January 9th, 2009, Mr. Chen was arrested for the third time. Just after he left home, around twenty people from the 610 Office¹, the Domestic Security Division, the local district office, the broadcasting and television bureau, and other CCP agencies arrested Mr. Chen. They searched him and found the keys to his home. They ransacked his home and put him in the Zhoukou Detention Centre.

After twenty days of detention, Mr. Chen's old illness recurred. He was in great pain and was not able to stand up or walk. On March 5th, 2009, the guards took him to the Zhoukou City Centre Hospital for a check up. He endured the pain and got in the car. Because he did not receive proper treatment in the detention centre, his condition has become worse. If he does not receive proper treatment as soon as possible, his legs will be paralysed, and he could lose his life.

His family members are very worried and have adamantly requested to bail out Mr. Chen for medical reasons. But CCP officer and Domestic Security Division Leader Gao Feng has refused to release Mr. Chen, and they are still trying to force Mr. Chen to write the three guarantee statements to renounce Falun Gong.
