The Hubei Women's Forced Labour Camp detains about 190 people. Except for criminals and prostitutes, the others are Falun Gong practitioners. Among them there are 50 practitioners who were transferred from Beijing on July 9th 2008.
There are dozens of staff in this labour camp, including administrators and doctors. This labour camp hangs up banners with slogans on them and was recognized as a "model advanced unit." Actually it is an evil den used for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.
This labour camp has three administrative modes: closed down, half closed down and open. They force practitioners to write "three letters"(letter of breaking from Falun Gong; letter of ceasing practising Falun Gong; and letter of exposing Falun Gong). Policemen use video, newspapers and books that slander Falun Gong to brainwash practitioners. They often use drug addicts to abuse and beat practitioners. Below are some examples:
1) Any practitioner detained in the labour camp is "strictly administered" for at least three months. The practitioners are subjected to sleep deprivation, standing or squatting for long periods of time, and other forms of abuse. A policeman and two criminals torture a practitioner in turn and force him to stand for a long time while holding a basin of water in the washroom.
For example, drug addict Wang Gui searches female practitioners' private areas heavily. Practitioner Yang Mei was tortured and beaten. She became faint in the dining room after a beating, and she was carried to the doctor for an exam. The doctor claimed that she was faint due to low blood sugar. Practitioner Wu Qinyu's arms were tied up, and policemen kneed her in the back repeatedly. Beijing practitioners Zhang Jie and Ma Xiuyun were forced to stand under the harsh sun.
2) According to a Beijing practitioner, the whereabouts of the other 5 practitioners arrested together with her were not known. They were arrested and detained due to the Beijing Olympics and transferred to a remote labour camp. This labour camp is extremely strict to Beijing practitioners. Policemen stripped off the clothes of a Beijing practitioner in Team Two, dragged her through several rooms and threw her into an isolated room, forbidding anyone from seeing her. From that room often came sharp cries for help. There are many such cases. However, the director of the labour camp Chen Changhua said during a lecture: a foreigner called him and asked him not to persecute Falun Gong, and he answered that no such thing happened. He even said to the practitioners on site that he treated them well. However, many practitioners have scars all over their bodies. Once when a practitioner refused to answer roll call, she was punched and kicked repeatedly.
3) Policeman Liu Jingsong often gives lectures to prisoners about the labour regulations. He said that all citizens should have two rest days. The labour time should be eight hours each day, 40 hours each week. However, none of the prisoners have two days off, and their daily working hours exceed 10 hours. They usually start work at 7 a.m. and stop at 8 to 9 p.m. The time given to them for lunch and dinner is about one hour.
4) This labour camp has been recognized as an advanced unit for several years. The administration staff members are appraised as models of probity, strictly executing the law. However, these policemen accept bribes from drug addict criminals. Those criminals often give money and gifts to the policemen, and even wash clothes, carry water and do massages for the policemen. In exchange, they are recommended for reduced sentences.
