Practitioners Savagely Persecuted in Heilongjiang Women's Prison

Practitioners Ms. Yang Shujun, Ms. Lang Ming, and Ms. Li Muyan, all from Qiqihar City, were savagely persecuted in the Heilongjiang Women's Prison.

Ms. Yang, a practitioner from the Fu District in Qiqihar City, was arrested and put in Ward 9 of the prison at the end of 2006. Warden Tao Chunping and Deputy Warden Pu Yu ordered inmates Guo Xiaohua, Xiao Lihua, Yu Chunyan, and Wang Dan to torture Ms. Yang. They deprived her of sleep for extended periods of time, made her stand for hours on end, and forced her to watch videos defaming Falun Gong. Her hair has since turned grey, and she is currently clinging to life.

Ms. Lang was taken to Ward 9 at the same time as Ms. Yang. Warden Tao and Deputy Warden Pu ordered inmates Xu Hong and Xiao Lihua to torture her. They deprived her of her sleep for seven days and forced her to watch videos and read books defaming Falun Gong. The stress elevated her blood pressure to the point that she lost consciousness.

Ms. Li was a teacher for the deaf. In August 2004, two of her neighbours--Zhao Ying and Han Youli--reported her to the police for telling people the facts about Falun Gong. They conspired with school principal Cheng Lijun, who later fired Ms. Li, to deceive her into going to the Anshun Police Station, where she was arrested. She was imprisoned for three years. Three days after her arrest, her father had to be hospitalized due to the shock, and he passed away twenty days later.

Ms. Li had been persecuted in the local jail for a year before she was taken to the Heilongjiang Women's Prison in August 2005. Ward 9 Warden Lu Jinghua ordered inmates Wang Fengying, Cui Xiang, and Zhang Lifang to force her to watch videos and read books defaming Falun Gong in an attempt to brainwash her. They also beat her, verbally abused her, forced her to sit and stand for extended periods of time, and deprived her of sleep. All these were done in the name of "rehabilitating" her.

At the end of 2006, newly-appointed Warden Tao Chunping and Deputy Warden Bu Yu ordered inmates Xiao Lihua, Xu Hong, Wu Donghui, Xu Yanhua, and another inmate named Li to torture her with extended periods of sitting and standing, sleep deprivation, and verbal abuse. She was finally released in September 2007. Li Muyan entered the prison as a young, healthy, and intelligent woman, but she was almost unrecognisable to her mother at the time of her release.

Ms. Li has lost feeling in her legs due to the prolonged periods of forced standing and sitting. She has also suffered memory loss because of the sleep deprivation and psychological torture.
