Practitioners Abused in the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Centre

Ms. Xin Lilian was dragged down three flights of stairs

On October 15th, 2007, Mishan City police arrested practitioner Ms. Xin Lilian when she was distributing Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution. Police extorted 1000 yuan¹ from her and detained her in the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Centre. Her family went to visit her many times, but they were turned down for numerous reasons.

When Ms. Xin was taken to the forced labour camp, she insisted that practising Falun Gong was not a violation of the law and she did not yield to the guards' unreasonable demands. She also requested an unconditional release. The guards humiliated her and swore at her. When she went on a hunger strike to appeal the brutal torture, Division 4 Assistant Director Sun Baolian handcuffed her. When she still did not give up her belief, Sun Baolian told the guards to drag her from the 4th floor to the 1st floor for force-feeding, causing deep bruises on Ms. Xin's wrists.

After torturing Ms. Xin for more than a month, the guards saw that they could not "transform²" her. They then tried to pressure her with hard labour. Ms. Xin did not yield and refused to do it. Gradually, nobody bothered her anymore. However, the labour camp officials used that as an excuse to extend her term by 8 days. Ms. Xin once again appealed and labour camp officials had to release her and send her home.

Ms. Liu Shuling vomited blood for 22 days

Ms. Liu Shuling is from Hongwei Town, Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang Province. On January 1st, 2001, she was abused in the drug rehabilitation centre so brutally that she vomited blood. She went on a hunger strike to appeal. Ms. Liu Shuling continued to vomit blood for 22 days. Since she was in a life-threatening situation, Division 4 Political Head Liang Xuemei had to send her to an outside hospital for medical treatment. Inside the drug rehab centre, Liang told others to swear at Ms. Liu. Others were also involved in abusing her, including Niu Xiaoyun from Division 4.

Ms. Zhao Chunyan forced to do hard labour

Ms. Zhao Chunyan is from the Hengshan District of Jixi City. On the morning of November 28th, 2008, she went to Xian Court in Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province, to attend a trial. Court officials and Mudanjiang National Security officials arrested her when she was standing on the pavement outside the courthouse waiting for the trial results to be announced. The National Security official told her family publicly to pay money for her release, otherwise, she would be tortured and sent to a forced labour camp or prison. During the past several years, because of financial and physical persecution, many practitioners are having a very difficult time. Because they have not committed any crime, it is inappropriate to pay fines. When the police do not get any money, they often send practitioners to a forced labour camp or prison. Ms. Zhao Chunyan was one such victim. Ms. Zhao was forced to select toothpicks for a very long period of time. This caused both her legs and feet to swell severely. The division manager, Liu Wei, not only did not allow her to rest, but also forced her to stand for hours every day. On April 21st, she was forced to select toothpicks again and she had to work 10 hours every day.
