Mr. Wu Shanhai was an elderly practitioner who lived in Wuhan City, Hubei Province. Because he persisted in practising Falun Gong, as well as explaining the facts about Falun Gong, he was incarcerated and tortured. One week after being released, on July 19th, 2007, he died from the injuries resulting from torture.
In December 2001, Wuhan City police officers rushed into the residence of Wu Shanhai. They arrested him, ransacked his house and confiscated Falun Gong materials exposing the persecution. Three days later, he was released on bail.
As Wu refused to give up his practice, when he was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution to people and telling people the facts about Falun Gong in August 2006, he was arrested by plain clothes police. His house was then ransacked, he was detained for three months, and his pension payments were suspended. He suffered from physical, mental and emotional blows.
On July 10th, 2007, Wu was exchanging experiences with a few practitioners in a park. He was followed by local police officers and once again arrested and taken to the police station on the grounds of "gathering to overthrow the government" and "colluding with overseas anti-China forces."
Three days later, the police ordered his family members to fetch him. At that time, Wu Shanhai's body was extremely weak and he could not eat. He had been tortured until he was on the brink of death. One week later, he passed away.
