On August 6th, 2006, Hiroshima marked the 64th anniversary of the atomic bombing of that city by holding its annual service at the Peace Memorial. On this day, local Falun Gong practitioners also held activities to expose the ten-year-long persecution of Falun Gong in China.

Sixty-four years after the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, 50 thousand victims and family members of those killed in the bombing came to the Peace Memorial. Representatives from over 50 countries attended the service as well.
At 6:00 a.m., practitioners gathered at the Memorial and started to distribute materials with information about the persecution of Falun Gong in China. One person told a practitioner that she used to practise Falun Gong before the persecution. Now she wanted to practise Falun Gong with practitioners since she was overseas.
A student used to be a police officer in China. When he understood what really happened in the persecution, he quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliated organisations using his real name.
That evening, practitioners sat across the Aioi River from the Atomic Bomb Dome and held a candlelight vigil in memory of those who died as a result of CCP torture. The activity attracted many people to come and inquire about the persecution. Some took pictures and some told practitioners to keep up their good work.
