Three Sisters from the Putuo District of Shanghai Arrested and Forced to Undergo Brainwashing

Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Guo Yueqin, Ms. Guo Yuefen and Ms. Guo Yuefang are sisters, all over 60 years old. Ms. Guo Yueqin lived in Jiameifang District on Tongchuan Road while Ms.Guo Yuefen and Ms. Guo Yuefang lived in the No. 7 district of Zhenguang New Village on Tongchuan Road. On May 25th, 2009, policemen from the Shanghai Putuo Police District and 610 Office¹ went to elder sister Ms.Guo Yueqin's home, ransacked it, and arrested her two young sisters, Ms. Guo Yuefen and Ms. Guo Yuefang. The sisters were then taken to the police station. Currently, Ms. Guo Yuefen is still imprisoned. Ms. Guo Yuefang was released on bail, but later she was taken to a brainwashing centre operated by the local residential committee.

As the police ransacked Ms.Guo Yueqin's home, they confiscated personal property including a computer, printer, books and leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. In June, Ms. Guo Yuefang was released on bail. However, the 610 Office and Zhenru District Integrated Management Office personnel have monitored her movements and forced her to change her phone number so that people from overseas could not contact her. Later, Ms. Guo Yuefang was taken to a brainwashing centre operated by the local residential committee for further persecution.

Officers Zhang and Shen from the local residential committee, along with Zhenru District Integrated Management Office personnel, forced Ms. Guo Yuefang to undergo brainwashing sessions. However, Ms. Guo Yuefang remained steadfast in her faith and explained that she wanted to be a good person, follow Falun Gong's principles and be a positive influence in society. They tried to force Ms. Guo Yuefang to write the three statements renouncing Falun Gong. Ms. Guo Yuefang refused, and is now scheduled to be taken to the city brainwashing center.

Prior to her arrest, Ms. Guo Yuefang invited an attorney from Beijing to represent her sister Ms. Guo Yuefen. This now cannot happen because Ms. Guo Yuefeng is being subjected to brainwashing.
